“Morning, beautiful.” The deep husky voice comes from behind me. That early-morning tone gets me every time.
“Morning.” Snuggling in a little tighter to his body, I soak up his warmth.
“Did you sleep well?” he asks.
“Let me see, do several naps in between earth-shattering sex count?” I can’t help but smile at the movie reel that’s already running through my mind of last night’s love fest.
“I didn’t hear you complaining at three am when you pushed me on my back and rode me like a pro bull rider.”
Pulling out of his arms, I turn over and lean up on my elbow to look at him, trying to keep a serious look. “So, you think you are a pro stud now. What makes you say that, hmmm?”
“The fact that we had sex five times last night and there wasn’t one time I wasn’t rock hard and ready to go. So yeah, I’d say I’m a stud . Of course, it kind of helps that I have the sexiest fucking woman naked in my bed begging for it.” Before I even have time to say another word, I’m on my back with Kurt tickling me.
“Stop it, oh my god, Kurt.” I’m left gasping for air between my giggles.
“Nope, can’t stop until you agree I’m a big pro studly man.”
“Never.” I squeal as his fingers start the tickling onslaught again.
“Pardon, I didn’t quite hear that answer.”
“Alright, you’re a big studly man, now stop before I pee my pants.” I try to suck in air the second he stops.
He says, “Can I just point out, you aren’t actually wearing any pants, not that I’m complaining in any way.”
“How can you be this awake and chirpy?” I lie flat on the bed stretching out, trying to breathe life into my tired body.
“Do we need to go over this concept of me being a studly—?”
“No!” Laughing, I see the relaxed look on his face. That’s what a night of loving does to a man.
“Can you open my water, please? I always struggle to break the seal and get the cap undone that first time. My body is dehydrated from sweating.”
Reaching behind him to where the bottle is sitting, he starts laughing. “At least I’m useful for something other than orgasmic sex.” Kurt sits up against the headboard. Twisting the lid, he looks a bit confused. “Did you already have a drink last night?”
“No, why? I was so worn out I couldn’t move.”
“The seal is already opened. I might just get a new one.” As he stands up in all his naked glory, I’m looking at the tightest ass cheeks I’ve ever seen. If that’s what surfing does for a man, I hope Kurt never gives it up.
“It’s okay, I’ll just drink it.”
Stopping at the door and looking at me over his shoulder, the serious look on his face has me paying attention.
“Never drink anything from a bottle that isn’t sealed. No matter what. Do you understand me?” It’s not the normal voice I’m used to from Kurt.
“Okay, sorry, I wasn’t thinking.” With that, he’s gone and I’m lying here thinking he’s overreacting.
Hearing the fridge door opening a couple of times, Coco is now in my room nudging me with her wet nose.
“Morning, girl. Go and see your favorite man and ask him to let you outside. But don’t let him out to show off his hot body to anyone else. No matter how much he thinks he’s a hot stud.”
Giving me a bark, she’s back off down the hallway to Kurt in the kitchen.
“Yeah, yeah, let me get some shorts on, you impatient mutt. Who said you get to run this house?” Kurt’s voice doesn’t sound as patient as he normally is with Coco.
Not hearing the back door open yet, Kurt is already on his way back to me with Coco on his heels.
Handing me a glass of tap water, he seems agitated.
“Everything okay?” I ask as I sit up more and take the glass from him.
“Yep, just thought tap water would be quicker.” Pulling his shorts up and not even worrying about his boxers, he clicks his fingers at Coco as he’s leaving the room, and she follows straight away.
Wondering what the hell just happened, I take a drink and head to the bathroom. Seems like the Sunday lazy-morning vibe has been killed, so I may as well get up and dressed. Coffee sounds like my first important job. My brain isn’t working if I totally missed something that changed the mood. But then again, that’s nothing unusual. I definitely need coffee first thing in the morning to even function. Not like Kurt who is always bright and alert as soon as he opens his eyes.
Wandering into the kitchen, I see the back door is open and Kurt’s out in the yard on the phone while he’s watching Coco. He’s pacing a little back and forth. As I shut off the tap water from filling up the coffee machine, I hear a few words that don’t make any sense, and I wonder who he is even talking to.
Listening harder, I’m standing just out of sight inside the back door.
“I don’t care how, I just want it done ASAP, and you need to have the results to me immediately.”
He’s silent for a few seconds until he starts again. “No, I can’t leave here, you know that. Stick to the plan. She can’t know about this.”
What plan?
What’s going on?
“I’m not taking any risks. I don’t trust her, either. I know I’m the only one to finish this job and I’m running out of time.”
What the fuck is going on?
I feel like a knife has just been thrust straight through my heart.
He doesn’t trust me, and by the sounds of things, maybe I’ve been a fool all along to be trusting him.
My heart’s thumping and my mind has frozen trying to make sense of what he just said.
Surely, he can’t mean what I’m thinking.
He loves me… he wouldn’t lie about that, would he?
I need some
