The Fairies In The Down


Rising from my slumber
where twilight comes weeping
dew.

My eyes dazzled by
winged lights—diving, swirling,
swooping in free form,
issuing a myriad of
colors.
Through a village of scavenged
bits of domesticity.
Seamstress pins. Housewives’ broomstraw
Tied together with scraps of nature’s
bounty.
Velvety leaves, moss, stalwart twigs
and colored
stones.




This lilliputian sanctuary
dotting rolling mounds of
earth
where sprites are dancing in a
ring.



To welcome the Moon Fairie
in a snow white dress of feathers.
She glides down from a gondola of clouds, arms extending the luminous sphere.
To light this night of celebration; the Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year.
The days hereafter will stretch their arms, reach to lighter skies,
a sign the earth will welcome the birth of spring.
