The Clouds of Cottingley Down

I am moving,
pools of clouds
enveloping my feet as I glide.

I float through a lake of
fragmented, translucent vapors—
The breath of the woodland gods.
I want to capture it—this vaporous breath—
but as it skims my skin,
Only the dew and shimmer remain.

Thus…

For this moment alone,
For an instant in eternity,
I will wrap myself up
in this ivory gown; like a queen
upon an enlivened pyre.
To bury myself, smiling,
in this flawless heaven.

To be as a newborn leaf
that calls this opulent earth
a tranquil place—
Opens itself like a nocturnal flower.

I lay down to cover myself
To inhale this alabaster air,
to assimilate and purify my inner soul.
To die and be reborn.
To be hushed,
To hear the whispers of the fairies
in their enchanted refuge
As they begin their magical dance.


Through the folds of the bushes
A vision appears; a chimera…
