The Prince of Darkness

"Then he will say to those on his left,
'Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal
fire prepared for the devil and his angels."
Matthew 25:41

Broken is she, an angel upon fallen grace. Golden spun hair falls to pale shoulders, an ethereal beauty, withholding the inner beast. A caged animal ready to tear through flesh and release its rage upon the world above. Piercing screams meet her ears but are only acknowledged by a sharp blade. Blood pools are created as the tortured victim is pulled off the rack, and replaced by yet another pitiful soul. Alastair’s lips pulled into a sadistic grin as he examined his canvas, preparing to bring out the color of red.

She kneels now, poised, her head lowered. A tall dark shadowed figure stands before her, staring at the previous mangled body being brought back together, only to be tormented once more. After all you could not make one suffer if they stay dead, there must be durable skin to peel and anguished cries to silence. That is the way of Hell.

A sneer is placed upon perfect lips, as he turns to face her, the girl who had fallen. “Why have you returned?” His voice, soft yet able to rise above all, to subdue the screams and keep them at bay. Able to break the night and day, leaving only purgatory to those pathetic humans who had the audacity to question his power. Who believed they were in charge of their fate.

Her feeble voice trembles at the almighty Prince. “I… I’ve come to beg for…” A pause, swallowing what was left of her pride. “…forgiveness.”

A harsh laughter vibrated throughout the chamber’s walls. “Forgiveness!” He spat the word like poison. “You betrayed your master, and you dare ask for mercy?”

The ground was pulled away from her as his hand twisted in her threaded hair, yanking her upwards to face those cold eyes, black with sin. A charcoaled robe is draped over his shoulders, leaving a bare chest without the burden of a heart. Angelic wings are stained with the blood of the pride and the hours of darkness. He was indeed the first angel which had fallen, the first angel to challenge God’s authority.

“You defied my order. I never allowed your entrance above.” He hissed, long dark hair shaking with rage. “For this you shall be punished.”

Tears leaked unknowingly from her eyes, burning at the sight of the Prince’s wrathful touch. Seeing this he threw her, hands scraping across the ground to catch her unexpected fall. “You belong with them, the scum, humans!” He screeched, ready to rip her apart, to tear the flesh off her bones, and watch her endure the Prince of Darkness’ torture methods. But that would not bring him enough satisfaction. She needed to experience something worse than physical pain, something that will never make her leave his side again.

A malicious idea that could only come from the first fallen angel formed slowly inside him. It was brilliant, in addition to his presence; there was only one lesson which could bring a demon trembling with fear. A wicked smile overtook his unearthly features, confirming the statement: “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”

He lifted her up, pulling her to her feet. Immediately she lowered her head at the sight of him, but with a swift yet gentle movement he leveled their eyes on one another. A hand ran through her tangled strands delicately, soothing her on command. “Since you find earth so pleasurable, perhaps you should return.” His whispered words brought eminent fear.

“No… please…” She quivered, her hushed voice barely audible.

“My dear Sarine, I am only giving you what you wanted… freedom.”

No, he wasn’t granting her freedom, this was banishment. To reside with scum, lowering her position to that of an insignificant human being. She wanted to lash out in fury and escape from the Prince’s clutches, but her body was too rigid to move, he had power over her. All she could do was stay in his arms listening to those awful words leave those beautiful lips.

“You are to stay there for seven years,” Assuming you live that long. “Self sacrifice is not an option; you are to be protected from harm. Never to die.”

He raised his hand, closing the distance between them with two fingers. “Farewell Daughter.” A cry of refusal could not escape her dried lips; tears could no longer be produced, as the fingertips brushed across her forehead, bringing on an immediate darkness.

Awakened

"Behold, all souls are mine;
the soul of the father as well as the soul of the
son is mine: the soul who sins shall die."
Ezekiel 18:4

No, please don’t wake me from my slumber. Don’t make me endure the hardships that humans so often must suffer through. Let me be. Please…

Sarine stay locked up in her mind, refusing to accept her fate. Abaddon sensed this, and smiled, as she stayed protected from the human and demon touch. Lucky for him he was neither.

Gently he brushed his fingertips across her cheek, flesh meeting flesh. A bright light signaled her awakening and her forest green eyes fluttered open as she stirred awake. Even inside a human vessel she was absolutely stunning, just like the time before she had fallen.

“Doctor!” A female voice called out followed along with sounds of running feet across the tile flooring. “She has awakened!” She exclaimed with a joyous voice.

“Indeed she has.” Abaddon murmured, disappearing from the scene.

When Sarine opened her eyes she saw humans dressed in lab coats surrounding her. Startled she sat upright, her eyes darting everywhere. The room which she was in was painted all in white, along with a strong scent of antiseptic which burned her nose and left her dry with thirst.

A large hand lay on her shoulder, capturing her attention immediately. “Catherine, do you know where you are?” Sarine narrowed her eyes at the owner of those words. A man dressed in white with a scraggly beard and light blue eyes. She pushed his hand away with little force, she has lost her strength, she didn’t know if she was even able to stand. Nonetheless she glared at him, holding her head high as she spoke words laced with venom. “My name is Sarine, I know nothing of this Catherine you speak of. I suggest you humans get that straight, or we might have some problems.” She spat angrily.

“Her hallucinations have gotten worse.” One man said, shaking his head in disapproval.

“What are we to do?”

“Drug her.” A short woman piped up.

“The last time we did that she went into a comatose state and would not wake for another two to three years.”

“That’s enough; I’ll handle it from here. You are causing a disturbance, tend to the other patients, and leave her to me.” A male voice rose above all the other humans, sending them out one by one, until he shut the door and turned to face her.

His head bent low over the clipboard, not letting Sarine catch a glimpse of him. But what did it matter? If you’ve seen one human, you’ve seen them all. But still there was something strange about this man.

The scratching of the pen ceased its rhythm as he finally looked up at her, smiling in greeting. “Hello.” One word, yet it was the most beautiful sound she had heard since she had awaken. He brushed away his auburn curls, as he continued to walk forward. And yet with each step he took, a brilliant radiance illuminated from him. As if he was… suddenly it hit her, and sent a spiral of fear and regret down her spine. She knew why this man seemed so inhuman, it was because he was. In other words, an Angel of God.

The Seventh Seal

"Their king is the angel from the bottomless pit;
his name in Hebrew is Abaddon,
and in Greek "Apollyon-the Destroyer."
Revelation 9:11
