to harm her in anyway. But she couldn’t allow him to do this; she wouldn’t let him sacrifice himself for her own benefit. She refused to let him succeed in his suicidal attempt of simple salvation.
“Come with me.”
“Sarine, I can’t.” His expression was now of pain and torment.
“Why not? This is not our war.” Her hand slipped into his as she tugged forward. “We are only mere pawns; there is a bigger battle at hand. And I can’t afford to lose you again.” Her voice cracked at the thought of leaving him behind, it was too heart wrenching.
Abaddon lowered his head, pulling away. “This is meaningless, we won’t survive. They will strip us of our powers and titles; we will be less than what we are now. Fallen, forced to walk this worthless planet. I don’t think I could do that.” His voice, so sorrowful and so broken, like he feared something greater than death.
She tightened her grip, unable to let go. “I know it is hard, but we’ll be together. I will never leave your side, I promise you that.” Sarine’s lips pulled into a soft smile, she meant every word that left her mouth. No more lies, no more resentment.
“I believe you.” He whispered, wrapping his fingers around hers.
Together they walked out hand in hand. Leaving their world behind, abandoning their destinies and homes. The scripture of the word of God had been altered by their hands alone. An angel who had fallen from grace and a son, who had defied his father’s orders, had liberated themselves from fate. The marionettes had broken out of their strings, in search of a greater truth. They were eternally bonded to a word they thought never knew existed, ‘freedom’. At last they were free.
