Chapter 13

Jacob

I walk out of my 6th period class. I couldn’t concentrate because of Janet and people were whispering about me. I need to see her. I know that she won’t go back home because school is still in session and her mom will ask her about it so she’s probably with Jonny still, maybe at his house? I walk to the attendance office. I open the door and see the secretary there. I smile my best smile at her. I walk towards her. “Hello, Bertha, I need to get some work to a friend of mine, his name is Jonny, and he has 6th period with me. He was feeling sick so he went home but I don’t know his address so I was wondering if I can have that please.” I asked her, smiling again. Bertha just looks at me. “Mr. Jacob, I can’t reveal stuff like that to other students. I’m sorry; you just have to find his house on your own.” She walks away. I curse and leave the office, I walk towards the front of the school, thinking about asking Ricky to tell me, no to demand for Ricky to tell me his address. “Hey babe!” I stop and close my eyes in frustration. This is what Janet does to me. I turn towards my current girlfriend, Judy. “Um…Hi.” Shit, now I have to break up with Judy if I want to be with Janet that is only if Janet takes me back and dumps Jonny. “Where have you been? I’ve been looking for you forever! You weren’t there in lunch or in fifth period and you just walk out of sixth period. Remember how I told you that I wanted to change my name? I did it! My name is now Alex! Well you know how-” She suddenly stops talking and she grabs my head and looks into my eyes, “Jacob, what’s wrong?” I remove her hands from my head and I hold them. “I’ve just been thinking about things, um, we need to talk.” I told her, getting nervous. Judy, I mean Alex looks nervous too, “Yeah sure, you want to go somewhere and talk now?” I shook my head, thinking how she helped me through all of this, and I pulled her close to me, placed my forehead on hers and I whispered, “No, how about you go home, get dolled up, looking all nice and then I’ll pick you up in an hour, and I’ll take you to really nice dinner far from here, with no interruptions from other teenagers, we’ll have a good time and then I’ll tell you what I want to tell you.” Alex looks sad, but she nods her head and walks away. I look at my watch; I have an hour to buy a car, get ready, and pick her up. I want her to have the best date before I break up with her. I know it might be a little selfish but I want one last good memory with her.

I got home, took a shower, got ready and I went to a car’s dealer. I bought a car that day. I needed to because Judy…I mean Alex said that I needed a car to be perfect. I picked Judy up on time. That day was our best date ever, I made sure of it. I took you to an amusement park then a romantic dinner and finally a walk down the beach. I held her shoes on one hand and I held her hand with the other. I kept telling her that I loved her all day. I held her hands, looked at her in the eye and told her straight out that I loved her but that I wasn’t in love with her. She looked away from me and looked at the sun setting. She pretended that she didn’t hear and asked if I wanted ice cream. She started to jog towards an ice cream truck while pulling me by the hand. I pulled her arm back and stopped. She stopped too. She looked at her feet, facing away from me and closed her eyes. I wrapped my arms around her and just held her. Then I told her about Janet. I loved Janet more than I can explain. I wasn’t sure if Alex (Judy) was the one but when I’m with Janet I’m 100% sure that she is. She just stood there, while I talked about Janet, not moving. I stopped hugging her and started to walk away. She panicked. She pulled me back and hugged me. I gently pushed her away. I told her it was too late and that I wouldn’t change my mind. She looked at my face and searched for any sign that I was willing to stay with her. They were none. I walked away. I looked at her from a distance. She stood there for a while. When I didn’t go back, she broke down, and I took her home.

I got worried about Alex so I call her two best friends, John and Jessica. Afterwards I go to Janet’s house. I need to talk to her. I want her to give me another chance. I walk up to her house and knock on the door. Ricky comes out. “What the hell are you doing here?” He snarls at me. I hold my hands up and form a peace. “Woah. I’m just here for Janet. I want to talk to her.” Ricky shakes his head. “Don’t talk to her. You’re giving her false hopes.” I smile at him. “What if the hope is not false?” Ricky smiles at me and then frowns. “You better not break her heart again.” I tell him, “As long as she doesn’t break mine. So where is she?” Ricky shakes his head, “I don’t know. She hasn’t came home. She’s probably with Jonny.” I feel a pain in my chest. “Um, is Janet serious about Jonny?” Ricky’s face looks horrified, “Oh god no. Janet doesn’t like him like that. I would beat him up if they were together. I really don’t like that kid. He gives off like a creepy, stalkerish aura.” I smile, “Haha yeah, He does seem like the type huh? Where does he live? Wait if he’s like that, why do you leave Janet alone with him?” Ricky shrugs, “Janet can take care of herself. Just go down this street and make a left. When you see a gray house with a baby blue car, that’s it.” I walk back towards my car. Hm. I guess me and Ricky are cool now.
