Chapter 1: The Arrival

India is nothing like England! What is with this heat and humidity? It’s been just ten minutes and I already miss home. Ughhhhh! Weather used to be very pleasant at his time of the year back home with summers just setting in. But now I am stuck here in this hell of a place. I really wish to go back. I wish I could go back in time and change it. I wish I had just shut my mouth that God awful day. This day would never have arrived.

But well, for now I’m stuck. β€œWhere the hell is the cab?? I’ve been standing here for the past half an hour. And still there is no sign of it!”

β€œIt will be here in a minute. Have patience." my Dad says with a little pat on my back.

Just then a cab pulls in front of us almost running over me. β€œWhat the hell?!”

My Mom and Dad usher me to sit in the cab while the driver loads the luggage. Finally! Phewww! Finally we are moving. I was tired of standing outside that airport.

As soon as I become comfortable in my seat I doze off.

It is the sound of honking that wakes me up with a start. Why is there so much noise? I really wished to sleep more.

I look around but find it difficult to recognize where I am. β€œOh” I now recall. I’m in Delhi and we are going to our new home. Our?- well Dad, Mom and mine.

To all those who think that moving to new places will give them a pleasant view to enjoy I guarantee they have never been to Delhi.

Leave a pleasant view……..there is no view. All that there is is lot of buildings and even more cars and far more bill boards. There is nothing there to see. All is so grey and dull. Even the sky, which is visible only a little from the car, is all grey. Why would someone want to be here?

Hmmm!

Well, I wanted to be here. (Not really) Atleast this is what mom and dad think.

You may think that I have been forced to come to this place. Well guess what? You are wrong. I have put myself in this place. Don’t know what I was thinking.

Chapter 2: The house

β€œWe are there.” My dad says.

β€œFinally” It took us more than an hour and a half to reach this new house of mine. I cannot call it home yet cause it doesn’t feel like one.

The car spots with a jerk outside a closed gate and a guar comes over to inquire. Once my dad tells him the details and presents the right documents, we are admitted inside.

The car drives in the drive way which is quite small. I finally get to open the door and stretch my legs which felt all cramped up inside the car. Once my legs feel that they can move around, I move around to have a full view of the house.

This house belongs to a friend of my father who has lent it to us for our stay in India. It looks small from the outside but has a modern architecture giving the idea that it has been recently constructed. The house seems to have three floors.

While my parents are busy paying the cab driver I go around the house. After passing through a narrow alley I reach the backside of the house. There is a small garden surrounded by high walls so no one from the outside can enter. A personal garden. But what grabs my attention is a β€œSwimming Pool”. I did not realize I had said that out loud. I did not have one back home. I always wanted one but could not have.

Just that moment my parents came around the corner.

β€œGet your stuff and come in. The house is big enough. Decide the room you wish to take.” Dad said.

I followed him back around the house to its front. The I picked up my bags and went inside.

The main doors opened into a small room which had a sofa set, table and some decorative pieces. Probably for the guests.

Across this room was another set of doors. Passing through these doors I found myself standing in a huge hall. The roof was so high I fancied it was the height of the house. In the centre of the roof was hanging a chandelier typical to Indian homes. But God it was beautiful and huge.

When I was finally able to move my eyes from it I analyzed the room. On the wall opposite of me was a door which led into a kitchen. In the corner to my left was a Dining table. In the center of the hall was a huge decoration piece. In the corner to my right was an aquarium. Just above the aquarium was a winding staircase which led to the floors above. The hall had a door at the back carefully concealed behind the walls which opened to the garden and the swimming pool.

My dad told that there were two bedrooms on the ground floor and three on the floor above. There was also one room on the roof. My parents planned on taking one of the rooms on the ground floor.

I decided to check them all out before deciding. I moved into the first room which was to the left. It was a big room with a master bed. It had 2 couches laid near the TV. There was also an attached bathroom. I checked the other room out. It was pretty much the same except that the windows opened up to the garden at the back of the house. Nice.

I decided to check out the rooms above. I opened the first room. It was huge. Far bigger than the one on the ground floor. It had a master bed, a 50 inch LCD TV, a video game console attached to the TV, couches and a reclining chair. One side wall of the room was made up of windows which gave a full view of the garden and the swimming pool below. The other side had a little window from which the front gate of the house could be seen. However the best part was that it had a personal staircase which led the garden below. I knew instantly I did not need to look at any more rooms. This is going to be my room.

So the territory was divided. The ground floor belongs to my parents and this floor is MINE!!

With this decided my dad leaves me alone in my new room. I quickly unpack my bags. Suddenly the whole room looks all messy. Hehehe! I had packed a lot of stuff. Well, I begin clearing the mess. My clothes hanging in the closet, book in the shelves, jewellery and make-up in the dressing table. Finally, only two things remain: my basket ball and my dart board. As there was already a basket ball in the small space near the garden, I leave it in my bag. I carefully fix the dart board behind my bedroom door such that it cannot be noticed with the door open. PERFECT.

Due to the long travel and the jet lag I was feeling dizzy. I turned on the AC and went to sleep on my new bed. With all the tiredness sleep came easily.
