Here I am, sitting on the road in a small town called Ginsworth. Ginsworth is basically 11 blocks filled with 1 grocery store, a mall, houses, a school, 1 restaurant, 8 offices and TONS of bookstores. All of the houses were crammed on 2 blocks. The grocery store, the mall, the restaurant and the school jammed 2 of the blocks. The offices took up 3 blocks. 4 blocks full of bookstores. Ginsworth is filled with people serious about academics. Everyone is interested in getting good grades, getting into a good college, and eventually getting a good job. Everyone except for me. Oh, hi! I forgot to introduce myself earlier. That’s ok; it’s better late than never! My name is Chrysanthemum McElroy. Yeah, I know, it’s a HUGE name. You must be wondering why I’m sitting on the road of this town. I’m waiting for my mom to come and pick me up and she doesn’t like to get into the parking lot. She said it takes WAY too much time. So, here I am, waiting for her. While I’m waiting, I’ll tell you a little bit about myself. I was born on August 22, 1997. My best friend is Sam Marci. Her REAL name is Samantha, but she hates it. I hate my name too, so everyone usually calls me Chris-y or Chris. Oh, my mom’s here! Talk to you later!
So, remember before I said my name I told you that I DON’T like what people in Ginsworth are interested in. See, it’s not like I HATE it or anything, but, it really gets on my nerves when people ONLY talk about jobs and education. Now, everyone does is MOST of the time, so yeah, I pretty much dislike it now. Even SAM talks about it. I’m starting to wonder if Ginsworth was a town made by nerds. Anyways, I missed out a tiny detail about me. I have a HUGE crush. Like, ENOURMOUS. I don’t know if he likes me back, though. I REALLY hope he does, but it’s kind of IMPOSSIBLE, because, every other girl in our grade likes him. Oh yeah, I’m in the 8th grade. But what’s CRAZY is that Sam doesn’t like him, which is weird because he has everything she would look for in a guy; smart, funny, caring and a good cook. Sam doesn’t like to cook, so yeah. I’m glad she doesn’t like him, because, if one of us got the guy, we would STOP being best friends. That would really suck. Oh yeah, my crush’s name is Xavier. Isn’t it the perfect name? Anyways, I’m going to make my first move at school tomorrow.
Sam strode down the school halls with pride. She wore Vintage ripped jeans with a vampire T-Shirt and red Converse high tops.
“Fashion Alert, what are you wearing?” she asked.
“Um, sweatpants with a green top and green Converse,” I said obliviously.
“Come on, I know you can do better than THAT. Which store do you shop at the mall?” she asked.
“I shop at the thrift store,” I answered.
“The thrift store, seriously? Why don’t you shop at Hot Topic or Pac Sun or Urban Outfitters? ATLEAST shop at Forever 21, for my sake. ”
“Stuff there is cheap. Besides, those types of stores aren’t really my style.” I replied.
“Not your style? Seriously, you REALLY think Xavier is going to get impressed by you if you wear THOSE kinds of clothes?” she asked with concern.
“Sam, he doesn’t care about clothes. Just look at him.” I said.
Both of us took a peek at him talking with his crowd.
“Fine. Wear what you want. But at least pair it up together nicely.” she said like she was going to cry.
Sam headed off to 1st period Science, while I rushed to 1st period Language Arts.
During the switch from 1st to 2nd period, I bumped into some one.
“I’m so sorry!” I said really nervously.
“I should be the one saying sorry. I bumped into you and dropped your books down.” A familiar voice said.
Was that Xavier? Better yet, was he saying sorry to me? I picked up my books and rushed to 2nd period Social Studies.
“Wait, Chris!” Xavier yelled across the hall.
I turned around. He rushed to me and gave me my history book.
“Thanks,” I said.
I sprinted to room 23. Math, as always, is BORING. I waited for the bell to ring, because then I get to meet Sam for 34 minutes.
The bell rang loud. I rushed to the courtyard, which is where we usually hang out.
“So?” Sam asked curiously.
“So what?” I asked nervous.
“Brittany told me that Jennifer told her that Vicki texted her that…. YOU AND XAVIER HAD A COLLISION IN THE HALLWAY!!!!!!!” she yelled.
“We bumped into each other, he picked up my books, handed them to me and we both sprinted to class.” I replied.
“Go talk to him. See you during lunch.” She said while she ran to Brittany.
I really don’t know why she wants me to go talk to him. I gave it a shot anyway. But before I could say anything, SLAM! THUD! I had bumped into someone again.
“I’m so sorry!! This is the 2nd time it’s happened and I don’t know what’s wrong with me today.” I said nervously.
“Hey, it’s my 2nd time too!” Xavier said.
Xavier, again?
I got up and started walking the other direction. After a couple of steps, SMACK!
I had almost fallen down and someone had caught me.
“Good thing I caught you,” Xavier said.
I felt weird. A strange feeling shot up through my spine. I felt hot, like REALLY hot. I wonder if my face was as red as my feelings were. The whole hallway was staring at us. I got up and rushed to Sam’s 3rd period class.
