Before the Earth was created, the Sun and the Moon were lovers. The Sun was a large and arrogant man, and the Moon a soft and compassionate woman. The Moon became pregnant during one interaction and held the child in her womb for thousands of years. Finally the child was born, and he had a molten core covered by land and then by water.
The Moon consulted with the Sun on how they would raise him. The Sun wanted his child to be strong, like him, with a fierce personality and a brave heart. The Moon, however, wanted the baby to be kind and compassionate, like her, with a love and respect for everything.
The parents argued on what action they should take, and while they were distracted, the child wandered around the universe and played with the Stars. From these, he learned many things. The child learned about different beings, and different ways of life. He learned about evil and good, and about pain and loss and love. He learned about fighting and about sacrifice, and how to survive.
When he returned to his parents, they ceased their arguing and listened to a story he had to tell them.
"Billions of years ago, a star existed whose name was Earth. He was born to parents who wanted nothing to do with him. He was raised with no love or comfort, but still showed great compassion for other beings. He was strong in withstanding the taunts of his peers, and the disdain of his parents. He was smart in learning how to fend for himself in a cruel universe, and to survive and be happy. He was an honorable creature, and he was himself, refusing to live by the standards thrust upon him by those who did not care. Earth was not a fool, nor was he cruel, given his upbringing. He was a hero among the stars, and the legend of his ingenuity still carried great power, especially in inspiring other beings."
The child wanted to be strong and fierce like his father, to withstand any attack. He wanted to be compassionate like his mother, and love and protect things his own. But he wanted to be his own being, with a smart and wild personality.
His mother, in response to his wishes, helped him create beings that he would watch over and protect on his surface. Together they made the humans and animals, the trees and plants and the sky. They made the humans smarter than the other animals, as they were protectors of the balance between the species. They made the sky as a barrier between the universe and the childβs inhabitants. They made birds and other winged creatures as guardians of that barrier, to warn the humans should anything or anyone infiltrate their world. After these tasks were completed, the Moon asked her child what he wanted to be called. His reply was, βEarthβ.
