Desert Flower

The hard, cracked ground of this parched land gave nothing and received less. Uninhabitable, what grows in this abandon land so hostile? No one, but those whose fiery is silent, weak, live in the ghetto.

First time mother, Patricia Nooks, a Desert Flower, raised her head through the shriveled earth.  Despite harsh conditions, she remained strong, stood firm against unforgiving winds. Sunk her roots in deep, built defenses that withstood, what bleakness tried to steal.

Predators tried to strip Patricia’s carcass clean, but this arid flower did what nature taught. She adapted to raise her family in this wasteland, unscathed.

Black Orchid

The bleeding sunset spilled red between our wordless world.  A cool blue breeze stirred this silent moment while stones, skipping across the calm waters, echoed and rippled through our past. Those unforgettable songs of happiness and regret kept in tune with my heartbeat.

In the silent silken sunset lie the flashes of life reverberating nostalgia. For the first time, I'd immortalized our love in the Cathedral of my heart. While exposing love’s sin, I sought redemption.

Precious images awake the streams of my Black Orchid daydreams. Seashells and whispers; ocean colored memories are the lyrics to our forgotten love, sad melody.

Life

Starving, Rukiyo took her two children across the parched land in search of sustenance.

Weaken, Lisha fell.

Rukiyo placed her hands over the motionless body of her beautiful child, heartbroken.      Sasha cried in her arms hungry; her shouts too frail to be heard.

  β€œAllah, help me!”

Rukiyo got to her feet with her youngest secured against her breast. She left her first born on the desolate road, continuing the journey.  Burdened with the task of keeping Sasha alive, she couldn’t look back.

  β€œFlowers!” Sasha yelled.

Rukiyo turned.

Where Lisha laid was a carpet of purple flowers, their source for life.

(Lisha in Somalia is loosely translates as "life)
