planning, but didn’t like where it was going. Jason let his rage get the best of him. He let it all out in one outburst. He could feel his body grow cold and his eyes change. The darkness had been released and he was still in full control. He extended his hand and felt for the blade. He closed his eyes to help him focus. He couldn’t feel anything at first, but as he dug deeper, he found his Quix Blade. The smoke erupted from his hand and manifested the blade. He gripped the handle tight. There was only one thing that Jason could think of to open this gate.
Jason looked back to Matt, who was now looking a little worried. The red eyes made him shudder, but the blade just made him feel sick. It was a strange thing to see happen at once. All this power had been given to him recently. He wasn’t ready to see what abilities the villains possessed. Jason turned back to the wall and brought his blade back. He stabbed it forward into the line. They lined up perfectly. Jason waited for results, but nothing happened. Could he have been wrong about this? He dare not think what to try next. Suddenly, to Jason’s relief, the symbol gave off a red glow. He ejected his sword and stepped back. The symbol opened into a full sized rectangle that was about eight feet high and six feet long.
Jason looked into the newly created portal, but couldn’t see anything but the red glow. It didn’t look like a friendly place to be, but he knew that there was no other choice. Jason’s biggest question was where would the portal take him? He almost didn’t want to know. He wasn’t afraid to admit it. He was a little worried about what he’d find. He had been trained not to be scared, but this portal still gave him the creeps. He knew what had to be done. He loved Sarah. He couldn’t just let Kris have her. He had to go. He turned to Matt and changed back to his normal, Aspen self.
“If I don’t come back…don’t forget all that I’ve taught you.”
Before Matt could speak, Jason stepped into the portal. He felt as though the whole world was shifting. It was a strange feeling for him to describe. He felt as though he’d merely taken a step, but everything around him was different. He seemed to step onto a completely different planet. It made his stomach drop and his head slightly dizzy. He looked back to see if the portal was still open, but only found the same symbol carved into a rock. He was here, wherever here was.
He could only describe what he saw as evil. He was no standing in a barren wasteland where there wasn’t any life in sight. The hard, rocky Earth was cracked all over and ever created a few valleys. The sky was the most unusual part. It was colored a light red color that took away any peaceful feeling to the place. He looked to the horizon and saw a black shape off in the distance. He couldn’t make it out from here, but had a bad feeling about finding out. He began walking. Flying would be too dangerous here. It seemed as though the rocks were watching him. The whole aura of the place felt like death and despair.
As he walked, he searched around for a heat signature of some kind, but found nothing. Was he in hell? He’d only read bible stories about hell, but it could be true. There was no sun on this new found planet. He didn’t know which way to go. His only sense of direction was the blurry structure off in the distance. He walked in that direction, hoping to find Sarah when he got there. The smell of blood tickled into his nose and the cold breeze made him shiver. The whole place was spine-chilling. He wanted to yell up to the sky for help, but knew it wouldn’t do any good.
He didn’t know how long he’d been walking. Twenty minutes? An hour? The whole sense of time was fuzzy here. He could finally make out that the object was a black tower. It was still pretty far away, but he was at least getting closer. The flat ground sloped down into what looked like a road. He began to follow the road. He figured that all roads led somewhere and that somewhere could be to Sarah. He was getting a headache now. It felt like nails were scratching against his skull. He tried to close his eyes, in hopes of relieving the pain, but it was no use.
Jason felt his heart rate pick up and the pain in his head intensify. Jason dropped down to his knees and put his hands on his head. He could feel the darkness shifting inside him. It felt stronger than ever since he had arrived in this place. It was whispering softly to him. It was begging to be set free. Jason could hear the cold voice echo through his very soul. It reminded him of his nightmares. This wasteland resembled the one in his dream. It was dark and eerie. This place felt like death’s birthplace.
When he opened his eyes, he could see the shadowy figure as well. He stepped forward, ready to defend himself. He saw the red Quixon eyes look at him. He stopped in his tracks for a moment. They petrified him for a moment, but he managed to continue. As he drew closer, he half expected to awake from another horrible dream. This time, however, Jason did not awake from a dream. Instead, he got close and the Quixon looked up revealing its face. His eyes widened as he saw himself looking back at him. It was his darker self. It had the Quixon eyes and the pale skin. Its veins where bulging from his body and he had a wicked grin on his face. He dropped down to his knees and held his head.
“Get out of my head!” Jason demanded.
“You can’t escape me, Jason!” the darkness hissed, “You and I are one in the same. It’s only a matter of time before you give in to me.”
“No!” Jason cried.
He closed his eyes wanting it all to go away. The voice didn’t respond and Jason could hear nothing but his own heart beating. He looked up and saw that the figure was gone. Had it all been in his head? Was he beginning to lose his mind? He rose to his feet and looked around. No…the darkness was inside him and there was no stopping it. All he could do was fight the urge. He wished he could destroy it. If only there was some way to rid himself of this darkness.
Jason continued down the dry road for miles. He was beginning to think that he was alone. There was no sign of life at all. It was just him and his dark power. What if he and Kris had been sent to different places? For all he knew, this had been another trap Kris had set. Jason was beginning to give up hope. He couldn’t live without her. She was everything to him. He wasn’t going to see her wondrous smile or her stunning blue eyes again. He would never get to hold her close and tell her that everything was going to be alright. He wouldn’t even get to say ‘I love you’ one more time.
Jason was on the verge of a breakdown when he felt it. There was a heat signature close by. He dashed in the direction of the signature until he finally came up to a rocky wall. It rose pretty high up, but Jason wasn’t concerned about how big it was. He was more concerned with what was in the small indent. In front of him was a circular device that stretched in a complete circle. It had chains at the bottom and the sides. Inside the device was his beloved Sarah Williams, chained up and unconscious. She was still alive and didn’t appear harmed.
Jason took a step forward, but stopped himself. He could feel something else. It wasn’t a heat signature. It was something much worse. The cold breath made Jason’s spine tingle. The aura of darkness was surrounding him. He didn’t need to turn around to see what he felt. He knew that the red eyed demon was right behind him. He turned to face him. He was smiling a few yards away. He looked the same as usual, except now he was showing his Quixon face. His eyes were dark red and black and his skin was as pale as could be. The blue veins in his arms were pressed against the skin, making him look even more menacing.
“Welcome, Aspen,” Kris spoke.
“Kris,” Jason growled, “You lying bastard!”
“Oh, please,” Kris teased with a grin, “Call me Vayne,”
Jason had had a feeling that Kris wasn’t his real name. It didn’t strike him as a Quixon name. His once presumed friend was now staring back at him with a look of personal victory. He had taken something of Jason’s and made him come right where he wanted him. Kris, or Vayne, was very pleased with himself. These Quixon were devious creatures.
“Where the hell are we?” Jason questioned in anger.
“We’re home. Well my home at least. This is the Quixon realm. We called it Vaetix. It’s our sacred grounds. Our unholy sanctum.”
“Vaetix?”
“Yes, a world where blood is shed and the weak cry out in pain and misery. Home sweet home.”
Jason clenched his jaw and glared at Vayne. No wonder everything had felt so dark. If this was the Quixon’s world, he expected nothing but corrupt and dark. This place definitely fit the picture. He looked back at Sarah for a moment. Why they had her in there escaped Jason’s mind. He didn’t want to know. However, Vayne did. He was confident that Jason could do nothing to stop him.
“Don’t worry,” Vayne falsely assured, “She’ll be fine. For now at least.”
“Leave her out of this. You don’t need to kill her.” Jason declared.
“Kill her? No, no, no. I have something much better in store for her.” Vayne grinned, “I can make her like me. Becoming a Quixon only takes time and discipline. We can mold her into whatever we want.”
Jason’s anger was exploding. He clenched his fist tight. There was no way he would let them turn her into a monster. She would not become a Quixon as long as he was around. Jason leapt out at Vayne and sent a kick towards his hand. Vayne held up his hand and caught Jason’s leg in mid-air. He snickered at Jason’s failed attempt and delivered a punch to the stomach. Jason flew back and skipped across the ground. The punch had been strong. It was a lot stronger than any other Quixon’s attacks. He jumped to his feet and awaited Vayne’s next move. This was the beginning of the end.
“Not even going to use your gift?” Vayne laughed, “Poor judgment, Aspen,”
“It is not a gift!” Jason growled.
Jason jumped at Vayne and threw a few punches. Vayne blocked each and every one of them, and then countered with a few of his own. Jason avoided the first two and jumped high into the air. Vayne followed quick behind him, ready to attack. Jason flew up higher and higher, hoping to get distance between him and his foe. Vayne was quick. Before Jason knew what was happening, he’d managed to get above him and was ready with the darkness. Much like Jason’s forceful flame attack, the darkness erupted from Vayne’s hands and knocked Jason back to the ground.
Jason fell downward and barely caught
Jason looked back to Matt, who was now looking a little worried. The red eyes made him shudder, but the blade just made him feel sick. It was a strange thing to see happen at once.
