voice answered softly, “I wish it was!”
“Jolent is that you?” Katalia questioned the familiar voice.
“No, I am his cousin Nathentex, prince of the elven district of Narron.” he answered with more confidence.
“I’ve never heard of that place. Where is it?” Katalia questioned.
“I don’t doubt that you haven’t it is a small kingdom on the border of Trillion and Naten.”
“Now those places I know, but isn’t Trillion a gnome village and Naten elven?” She thought a moment then laughed.
“Oh so that’s why Jolent looks so weird! His mother and father must have met in Narron since it’s in between the two cities!”
“You catch on quickly.” he said, and Katalia thought she heard a hint of humor in his voice and she smiled. There was no telling how long he has been here.
“Oh, no here come the guards!” he whispered, then said no more.
Katalia stiffened. Her uncle was probably with them, and she was most likely in the dungeon, but why wasn’t she chained to the wall? She tried to move but then felt pulled back by magic.
Great.
As the wooden door to their prison opened light streamed through and the two soaked it in. One of the guards brought in a torch, but that wasn’t necessary since her uncle was practically on fire.
“Hello, my darling niece. Did you have a nice nap?” he asked politely.
“ Hello, Uncle Darius. No, I didn’t have a nice nap. But who could in such a grotesque place such as this?” Katalia’s innocent voice asked.
She tried to be as polite as her temper and situation would allow. She remembered when her brother and she would play in the dungeon when there were no prisoners. One time she accidentally got locked in one of the cells with a soundproof door and she wasn’t found until the next day, cold, hungry, and scared. She turned back to the present just to hear her uncle reply back.
“Why, thank you for the compliment my dear niece. But let’s skip the formalities. Drake come in here, please.”
Katalia’s cousin entered a bit shyly, but when he spoke, all of that shyness vanished, “Hello, cousin.” he sneered, and Katalia out of curiosity read his mind.
“Why do I have to marry her? There are plenty other fairies that are ten times more powerful and prettier.”
Katalia scrunched her nose up and thought, “Well cousin I don’t want to be here either, but that doesn’t help us now does it?”
“The wedding is all planned, if your father doesn’t agree to my demands.” Her uncle replied with a smile.
Katalia rolled her eyes, “Like he’s ever going to turn over his kingdom to you.”
“Well, we’ll just see who he will choose. His struggling people, or his dear, dear daughter.” He reached out and patted her head, and she tried to bite it.
“My, what a feisty one my brother has raised. You’ll fit perfectly with our family.” Darius turned toward the doorway, “ Guards, take the princess to the throne room. I want her to get newly acquainted with her groom to be.” He let out a soft chuckle that made Katalia shiver. This was not going to be good.

Prince Collin went to open the door for the fifteenth time, only to be greeted by the same guards who were standing there all those times, “Please, let me pass!” he pleaded.
“Collin, you know what they are going to say!” Prince James called to him as he lifted his forehead from his hand that propped him up.
They had been in there for what seemed an eternity. Simolia was reading a book, Kaliea managed to bring her sewing kit into the room and was mending some of the guards uniforms. Megdelia was pacing, and Aralina was tending to the plants by the windows. Prince Collin had been walking around, muttering, then going to the guards and asking to get out. Prince James, had obviously stopped trying that approach, and was sitting on the floor next to a table that was covered with books. When the other five kids had walked into the room, they saw that he had been sitting there for quite a while, because he had a big red mark on his forehead from where he had put his hand.
The library was one of the largest rooms in the castle. Two stories tall, it was the home to many of the oldest books of their kingdom. The books themselves were categorised by time periods, then into their different sections such as- science, magic, folklore, history, music, and art.
The red plush chairs were organized all over the room in specific areas. But the main sitting room had a huge fireplace that was made from different rocks from all over Fantalaisia, magma from the dragon region, sandstone from the desert unicorn regions, limestone from the goblin cave regions, hard sulfur type rock from the trolls, glittery granite from the pixies, and all different types of precious stones from the fairies.
The winding staircase that connected the two floors together, was of pure silver. And the bookcases were from the elven forest oaks- the most beautiful wood you have ever seen.
Collin came back from the door in exasperation, “I have to save her!”
“I know you do, and so do I, but there is no way we are getting past those two guards. They are from the best. Trust me. I know.”
“There’s got to be a way!” he said determinately, while slamming his fist into his other hand.
“Too bad there isn’t like a secret door or something.” Kaliea sighed.
Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at her she looked up and smiled hesitantly, “What?”
Simolia got up from her perch on the second floor, and started to mumble, “Maps, second floor, third chest, next to the last bookcase, middle scroll.”
“What are you mumbling?” Aralina called to her.
“I’ve spent mostly all of my free time here. So I know more about this place then the palace scribe.” she called back. Then started to mumble again,” And if I remember correctly.” she knelt down in front of the chest and opened the lid.
“Aha!” she exclaimed in glee. She held up the scroll triumphantly and ran toward the stairs, and down to the table in the middle of the group of chairs.
The group surrounded the table as she spread out the scroll.
“Now lets see...where was that hidden staircase?” then she pointed to the far corner of the library on the map, “You see that door right there?”
The group all nodded and she took that as her cue to continue. She then pointed to the wall, “Well, it’s not there.”
James picked up the map and headed over to where the stairs should be, “I know of this mapmaker. He was the greatest one out there, and it’s not like him to make such a mistake.”
“Unless it’s not one!” Simolia supplied.
“You mean, that there is a secret passage in this castle?” Aralina inquired, as the rest of the group started to follow James.
“But where does it lead?” Megdelia asked.
Simolia shrugged, “I don’t know.”
James rolled up the scroll and started to knock on the wall. “If there is a secret passage around here it should sound hollow behind this wall.” He said.
He continued, until right next to the book case there was a loud thunk.
James turned, and smiled,”Ladies and gentlemen, we have our escape route.”
“But how do we get to it?” Kaliea asked.
“Try the books. Maybe one of them opens it!” Megdelia suggested.
“No, it couldn’t be one of the books,” James insisted, “It would have to be stuck. I mean, someone might want to read the book, and if he pulled it out to read, then he would open the secret passageway. It would have to be something that no one would pay any attention to.”
“You’re right,” Megdelia admitted, “Sorry.”
“Hey, no problem,” answered James.
“Well, maybe there’s a button on one of the shelves that you can push.” Simolia asked taking a close observation of one of the shelves.
“We won’t figure it out if we just stand here. So, start pushing!” Collin said with renewed vigor.
Together the group searched the whole bookcase pushing everything that could be pushed.
Just when they were going to give up. Collin pushed a on the center of a flower design which made the bookcase move. The group jumped back in surprise.
“I was right?” Simolia asked in surprise.
The group nodded as the bookcase opened to reveal concrete steps going down into the dark.
“Well let’s go!” Collin said with excitement. The others started to follow.
“Wait!” James called out as Collin started to descend, “Even if we go down there how are we going to get past the guards.”
“He’s got a point you know!” Simolia answered, sticking her head through the door.
“Then what do you propose we do?” He asked frustratedly.
Kaliea came up to him and held up the guard uniform, “Perfect fit even if I do say so myself!” Her smile reached from ear to ear.
He smiled back, “Kaliea, I like the way you think!”
She did a curtsy, “Thank you your highness!”
The group separated and got changed into their new attire. “Well we certainly look like guards except for one little problem,” James said as they joined back together.
He reached behind Collin and pulled on his wing,
“OW!” Collin exclaimed.
“This is why!”
“Yeah he has a royal wing.” Kaliea said in an obvious voice, “ OH!!!!!”
James nodded,” Exactly. We are not going to fool anyone with these wings.”
“What can we do? We can’t exactly exchange our wings with another now can we?” Collin stated.
James shook his head then smiled, “But I know what we can do!”
He turned and started to descend the steps.
“Where are you going!” Simolia questioned, as the others followed him down the steps.
“I wish we could see.” Aralina mumbled. She really didn’t like the dark.
Just as she finished saying that, two balls lighted their path. It took her awhile to notice that those two balls had hands inside of them. James had light as his power- a very rare form of power in very few fairies.
As the group descended, they all wondered where James was taking them. Or what he had in mind!
As they reached the wooden door that marked the end of the stairwell, James took a deep breath and opened it a crack staring out he could see nothing but fabric. The door was covered by a tapestry.
“I don’t hear anyone. Do you think
