we should risk it?” Collin questioned.
James nodded, “We’ve come this far.”
He opened it a bit more then moved aside the tapestry.
“I know where we are!” he said with relief, “We are close to our destination. Follow me!” he whispered.
Hesitantly the others emerged from their secret passage and moved the tapestry back into place.
“Should we mark where it is in case we have to come back here rather quickly?” Megdelia supplied.
Kaliea pulled out her scissors, thread and a needle. She quickly sewed a little arrow into the bottom of the tapestry. It was small enough so that people looking at it wouldn’t see it, but not so small that she wouldn’t. The fairies quickly crept along the hall. They had to be quiet, or else, if someone found them, they would be reported, and whisked off to a more efficiently guarded room before they could say,’Well that was a good try.’
“We are still in the castle, but we are near another secret passageway that leads outside the castle,” said James, “But we should still be careful. The guards would have an easy time catching us at this part in the castle, because it is small and narrow. We are going to see Methuen, who is a magician. He might be able to help us find my sister, who at this moment...”
He didn’t finish. The others looked up, and saw that he was staring straight ahead. When Megdelia looked up, she saw ten guards standing at the end of the hallway. Fortunately, they were not looking in the direction of the fairies. And they were able to sneak to the secret passageway. Unfortunately, Megdelia tripped and fell into a suit of armor. The loud clanging sound carried to the guards, who turned and yelled at the kids to stop, which was kind of stupid because everyone had frozen in shock.
The guards quickly ran through the hallway. As soon as they were clear of the small hallway and into a wider section with a higher roof, Megdelia took flight and the others followed suit. They flew as fast as they could, to another suit of armor. James grabbed the sword that the suit of armor held, and put it in the other hand. The statue slumped forward as the sword was taken out. It almost fell on top of James if Collin hadn’t interfered, and pushed on it with all his might. When James was in the clear Collin quickly moved out of the way and it fell on some of the guards.
“Come on guys, this way!” James yelled and they all followed as fast as they could.
They ran behind the pedestal that the armor was on top of, before it fell. James and Collin pushed the pedestal forward, and another secret passage opened up, and Megdelia saw stairs leading down a dark passageway. The kids quickly ran down the stairs, Aralina albeit unwillingly, and James’ hands lit up as he ran. Megdelia was second to last in the line, and stopped when Aralina, who was in front of her, stopped. Simolia wasn’t as lucky. Was in the rear, and she ran into Megdelia, who fell into Aralina, who fell into Kaliea, who fell into Collin, who fell into James, who was pounding on the wall that blocked the end of the tunnel. The wall opened, and the five kids tumbled onto the floor in a disorganized pig pile.
Simolia, who was on top of the pile, looked up and gasped. For standing right there, in front of them, was a young wizard.
“Don’t worry! I’ll get those guards!” the magician shouted, and pointing his finger to Megdelia, who was underneath some of the pieces of armor that fell down the stairs with them, he uttered a couple of words, and suddenly, Megdelia disappeared in a flash of lime green light.
“I’ll get it! I’ll get it!” yelled the wizard, who was clearly trying to help, but getting it all wrong. He grabbed a jar from a table, and slammed one to some spot on the floor. When he picked it up, and screwed the lid on tightly, the other kids could see Megdelia inside the jar. She had shrunk to the size of a nik-nack, and was pounding on the sides of the jar, with her eyes wide, and mouth open, obviously screaming something. However, no one could hear whatever she was trying to say.
“Methuen you don’t understand she’s with us!” James explained to the young confused magician.
“No! That is a guard!” Methuen insisted.
“Well, if she is a guard, then she is with us,” said Simolia.
“Oh, you are a guard too?” asked Methuen excitedly.
“NO!” yelled James, “They... are...not...guards.”
“Who’s not?” asked the magician.
The group rolled their eyes and gave James a look. This was the person that would help them?
“Methuen,” James explained, “I am a prince-,” he got cut off.
“Oh! Your majesty!” started Methuen, “I am most honored to be-”
“Yeah, okay,” cut in James, “And this is Collin, the other prince, who my sister-”
“I like your sister. She is nice. She doesn’t interrupt.” interrupted Methuen, giving James a dirty look.
“As I was saying,” continued James, as if nothing had happened, “This is Collin, who my sister was wishing to marry. These are her friends, and helpers, Megdelia, Aralina, Simolia, and Kaliea.”
“Guards!” shouted Methuen.
“No!” cried James in exasperation.
“No, guards!” He exclaimed then pointed behind the group.
All of them turned around and saw what he meant. Apparently the guards had found out about their secret passageway.
“Ah, guards.” said James.
“Thanks for your help, it was nice knowing you.” said Collin, who knew that when King Minas found out that his son had escaped without his permission, he would not be very happy.
“No, I got this,” said James, “I really, really hate doing this, but guys, I’ll catch up. You run on. I’ll stop them. Take Methuen with you. No matter how crazy he might be, he might be of a little assistance. Plus he will UN-shrink Megdelia.”
“I’ll stay with you,” said Collin.
“You’d better not. I’m going to use lots of energy to put out a lot of light. I don’t like to do it to my guards, but in order to save my sister I will have to.”
Collin nodded, and followed Methuen and the girls, who had unleashed Megdelia. She was flying quickly around Methuen’s head. As soon as his friends were in the clear, James closed his eyes in concentration. Soon his hands were glowing. His clothing soon followed. The guards started to shield their eyes and started to back up slowly to the stairs, but not before James sent out a yell in pain and the room erupted into brilliant light. His friends turned to see the magician’s quarters erupt in a blinding light the group paused a minute. There was no sound, and Methuen held something up to his ear.
“He wants us to go on without him,” the magician said.
The group started to protest, but soon knew that it was for the best, but they vowed to find the princess and if necessary, help the prince get off of his punishment.

Meanwhile......
James groaned as he tried to lift himself off of the floor. He looked up to see guards approaching with grim expressions.
“Hi, guys. Sorry about the temporary blindness thing.”
They all glared at him and lifted him up. He groaned in pain, as they started to carry him up the steps. The pain closed in, and he lost consciousness.
“Oh, my! Is he all right!” Queen Alexandria exclaimed as the guards brought her son up to his bed room.
They nodded, and dumped him on the bed. The prince stifled a groan.
“Careful!” exclaimed the queen, “He may be delicate in his subconscious condition.”
The guards looked at each other, but did as the queen requested. The king rushed in as she put a blanket over the sleeping prince.
“What happened?” the king demanded of the guards.
“We saw the prince with the other five that were sent to the library in the east wing. They escaped through one of the secret corridors. To the apprentice magicians room. There they escaped and the prince stood there blocking our way. Then he started to glow and then it all went black. We came comatose and the prince was just laying there. Soon he came to, for a couple of seconds, and then we brought him here.”
The King slammed a fist on the wall, “They are going after Katalia. Those foolish, wonderful children.”
“We are not children anymore father.” came James weak reply, muffled, because his face was in his pillow. “We are adolescents.”
His father chuckled, “So you are son. But don’t think you are not going to get punished for disobeying my orders.”
James groaned and fell back asleep. Though for some reason he dreamed of his sister in a dungeon with another person. A relative of someone she knew. She was speaking to him in his dream, but instead of her sweet voice it sounded like his uncle, “James, rescue me. Please.” Then his dream panned out and he saw his uncle standing over his dear sister with his filthy hand on her head. And what looked like a younger version of Darius standing in the background.
“Is this really going to work father?” the young Darius asked.
Darius chuckled deeply, and pushed down on Katalia’s head making her disappear from view, then seemed to look straight at James, with a piercing glance, “Yes it most certainly will, but we have an eavesdropper. I will give him what he fears most, and maybe that will teach him to stay out of his uncle’s business.”
James dream changed and he was in the castle, looking for anyone but no one was there. And then he looked and saw himself starting to disappear. He screamed and then, woke up.
His mother was sitting next to him with a wet washcloth. He tried to sit up, but she gently but firmly set him down, “Stay down sweet heart!”
“Mom, I saw her. Katalia. She was with Uncle Darius in a dungeon.” James mumbled. His mother paused as she was about to put the cloth back into the water basin.
“You know sibling connections are very strong sweet heart. I’m sure that was just a dream.” She was very quiet during the first part. But got louder during the second as if she didn’t want the people outside to hear the first part. What was his Mom hiding from him or trying to tell him?
“Mom, do you think that Katalia is all right?”
“What does your heart tell you?”
“Um, that she is strong.”
“Then you must not worry my son. But,” she added more quietly, “you must keep your mind open at all times. Your sister is older, and stronger than you. But only by a little bit. Remember, you are only a day younger than she. But since she is stronger, she might be able to send one person a message as to where she is, and how to rescue her. You are closest to her, and there is no doubt that she will send you the message. Keep your mind open to any little sound of her voice. If your uncle is really as strong as we think that he is, then she will be very weak by the time that you
