They were everything I thought they would be, and everything I wished they weren't. Black as shadows, brown as dirt, and yellow as fire. The trackers. Finding our microchips, directed by the hybrids. Slowly creeping forward, how long until they found us? Which one would send out the signal? Wait, I know that one. Budi? That midnight black, so black in the deep green of the forest. How did they find him? I hid him entirely. Why did they use him, he was wild, uncontrollable, besides to me. No animal was uncontrollable or wild to me, I was their alpha. That was my ability, to change my appearance into that of an animal. No one else on Phoress possessed my ability. They would just use me, but not Casey, not my brother. There was one other who possesses his ability, Kinto. The strongest, the best, the most useful gift was given to Kinto and my brother. They were blessed with the ability to have any power they wanted to have. Casey would have to face Kinto, but I couldn't let that happen. Whoever had the same ability fought to the death to stay alive.
The guilt was there, on my shoulders. He was ten and a half years old, on the run and if he wasn't, he'd be dead. Every millennium they come, to destroy villages who don't cooperate, and reap the special hybrids the humans created. Well not the hybrids, the special abilities. Scientists even created the werewolves and vampires. They found the most suited planet and stuck them there to breed, create us. The terrible part is Casey and I are the last. The special hybrids were a very rare and almost extinct species. They were inching closer, how far will we run to lose them this time? Ten miles? Twenty? More?
