Chap 4
Lilly pulled up to her house and got out. Her head was still spinning with everything she had to do.
The first thing on her list was Laylahnni.
As she walked up to the door and pulled out her key she heard Laylahnni’s soft voice saying, “…And I hate that it drives me so crazy and I was wandering why it does.” she finished with a long, loud sigh and sat back down at the kitchen bar.”
She heard silence for a moment then Laylahnni’s voice came back on, “I DON’T WANT ATTENION!” she screamed and Lilly jumped almost dropped her keys. There was more silence “Kellan, Baby I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to yell. Pregnancy hormones…” Lilly’s eyes got huge. She hurried to open the door.
She opened it and heard Laylahnni quickly whisper, “Kellan, my moms home. I got to go.”
“Hey…” Lilly said slowly.
“Um, Mom,” Laylahnni paused, “Can I talk to you about something?”
“Not right now. I have to take a shower.” she thought about it. “Actually yeah. My shower can wait until after dinner. I have to talk about something to you about, too.”
Laylahnni was taken back. “Well please don’t get mad Mom. I’m not for sure or not and I just slipped with Kellan. I-I think tha-that I might be pr-preg-pregnant.” She flinched away preparing herself from her mothers reaction.
She just sighed. “Laylahnni I’m not okay with this but you are 18 and you are now an adult. We will go out and get a test after dinner, if that is positive I will set up an appointment with my gynecologist and we will make sure.
Lilly turned around so Laylahnni wouldn’t see her cry but a sob broke out.
“Mom are you okay? I’m sorry if you are mad at me. Why are you crying, we aren’t sure yet.
Laylahnni gasped, “Mom how do you know she shot herself?”
I’m not stupid sweetie. We live In Mason, Michigan. That kind of stuff doesn’t happen around here.
“I was just trying to protect you.”
“I know. Well now that that is all said and done, why don’t we eat?”
Laylahnni was shocked this was the first time her and her mom had had any type of conversation since Cade had died.
