...........My long auburn hair blew in the wind as I looked over the railing. I grasped the edge to prevent myself from falling over, and franticly searched the waves for a sign of him. By him, I mean my boyfriend Chris. "Chris!!" I yell. He had disappeared moments before. All of a sudden, I see a flash of grey and a dorsal fin. Oh no. My heart all but stopped, as I relized what I had seen. Shark. I could see it now, it was close to the surface. It was maybe 10ft long and it had an object on its back. Thatβs when I noticed it was thrashing. Chris was on its back. Suddenly even more frantic then before, I searched for something to throw at the shark. Seeing a metal rod, I reach down as far as I dare, and poke the shark. Its response is to rear its ugly head and rip the metal rod from my grasp, nearly ripping my arm out as well!! In that split second, I get a glimpse of its cold, black, lifeless eyes. I shudder, and concentrate on maneuvering the metal rod for Chris to grab onto. Amazingly, he grabs it, and I haul him up before the shark can take a bite of him. Or should I say take another bite. I huge chunk of his leg is gone, and the wound is bleeding badly. I search around for a cloth; instead finding an extra mast. Figuring it would have to do, I rip it in half, then tie it around Chris's wound. Unable to look at the gaping injury, I focus on his face. The blood has drained from it; he's as pale as a ghost. I gently brush the wet hair off his face. "Oh, Chris." I whisper. He coughs, and his eyes flutter open. "Ronnie?" he asks weakly. Smiling, I say, "Yeah. I'm here." I take his hand in mine. "Don't leave." he says. I lean down and kiss him. Breaking away, I say, "Never." He tries his best attempt at a smile, and fails miserably. "It's going to be okay." I say. I only hope its true.........................
