“B-but I would do anything for you.” He stammered out, the kids laughed at him as Molly smiled.
“I know right.”
Jesse looked around him, all of his siblings had their own box of cornbread mix. Even Ander an Anna. He figured if he was gonna do it, he had to do it now. Picking up a spoonful of the gritty mix he splattered some on Lina, who was struggling to mix it all together in her bowl. She gasped and looked up, her red hair marred with the corn bread mix. Se picked up her own spoon and flicked at him, getting him right across the face. She smiled but made no sound, their siblings hadn’t caught on to what t hey were doing yet. They were too engrossed in their cornbread mix. He dipped his fingers in the mix and flicked whatever he had gathered at her. Her face was polka dotted with the corny mixture. She narrowed her eyes and put her whole hand in the mix, then threw a whole fistful of the mix on him. He opened his mouth in mock rage. He picked his bowl up from the counter and sprayed Alissa. She looked at him with one brow raised, he motioned his head to their little sister and she smiled. She picked up her bowl and dipped her hand in the bowl, then aimed to throw it at Lina… only to switch positions quickly and hit him square in the face. She giggled and that caught everyone’s attention. When they saw him with his messed up clothes and Lina with her messed up hair, they couldn’t contain themselves. They all laughed and Jesse licked his top lip, getting come of the cornbread mixture in his mouth. It did not taste appetizing at all.
“It’s on.” Then he grabbed his bowl and a free-for-all began.
“Anybody care to explain why you guys are covered from head to toe in cornbread mixture and flour?” Molly asked, pinching her nose bridge and closing her eyes. Her children stood before her messy and cakey. Jesse raised his hand, looking down and abashed. The kids immediately chortled, then held it in as Sarah threw them the glare that promised death.
“Yes Jesse?” Molly asked, putting her hands on her hips.
“Well, the cornbread fairy flew into the kitchen and asked ‘what do you think you’re doing with my family?’ her voice was really high and annoying, kinda like Cara’s,” he made his voice high and unattractive.
“Hey!”
“We told her what we were doing and she got this weird look on her face.” He looked around him and pointed to Libby whose face was scrunched up due to her about to sneeze.
“Kinda like that. And she started slapping us, back and forth and back and forth.” He shrugged as his story came to an end. Molly rubbed the bridge of her nose, struggling not to laugh at the cuteness of his story.
“And why, exactly, did you not call out if you were being slapped around?” She said, cocking her brow, knowing she’d finally caught him.
“She’d stuffed our mouths with the most delicious cornbread we’d ever tasted. I don’t mind getting slapped around if it means yummy cornbread. Even though I’ve never eaten it before.” Anna said, raising her hand and waving it. Everyone, including her brother, looked to her. She shrugged slightly and rolled her eyes.
“Well, that is what happened.” Jesse smiled and laughed quickly, then quieted down when Sarah glared at him.
“Fucking Greene’s, crazy as hell the whole bunch of ya.” She mumbled as she walked away and, being Greene’s, they couldn’t hold in their laughter any longer. Chapter 15
Valerie sighed as she unlocked the door of her apartment, it’d been a rough day and she was absolutely out of it. She closed the door and hung her coat up on the coat hanger she’d summoned herself. She’d summoned everything she owned, except for the apartment building. That she had to pay for out of the money she’d, once again, summoned. She walked further an put her keys into the little dish that was on the table behind the couch. She flopped down and closed her eyes.
She’d worked herself to the bone at her job. Sure she didn’t have to do much, but with depression a little task was a huge journey. She opened her eyes and looked straight ahead of her, there was something in the house. Something that shouldn’t have been there. She stood and clenched her hands, feeling the wisps of magic curl around her knuckles. She walked to her room and opened the door, to find a small dark bundle curled up on her aqua colored comforter. She lifted her fists, ready to throw a punch of magic, when the bundle moved and amber colored eyes peeked at her. She gulped as the magic dissipated from her hands. The orbs looked at her for a moment longer then went back down as a soft whining emanated from the creature. Her brow furrowed as she took one cautious step into her room. The bundle huffed but didn’t move. She took a few more steps slowly and carefully until she stood by the foot of her bed. She cocked her head, the tail of her ponytail following her as she looked at the bundle. She fend a flicker of magic to her lamp and it came to life, showing a small pup. She narrowed her eyes and leaned closer, then sniffed.
“Yup, that’s blood. Why don’t you shift back and maybe I can try to mend your wounds.” The pups head popped up and round amber eyes looked at her with curiosity and she shrugged.
“Not my first time in the rodeo, now come on. I’m sure your mother and father are searching everywhere for you. I’d prefer you not to go with them smelling of blood and my sheets.” He whined and his nose sniffed the air, but he wouldn’t be able to tell what she was.
“I’m half fey, now stop stalling and change already.” He looked to his small fur covered body and back to her. She rolled her eyes and crossed her arms.
“If I leave this room and you aren’t done by the time I’ve managed to make you a sandwich I’m coming in here and I’m doing it myself, got it?” She asked, keeping the hard ass edge she’d been having in. She left the room and closed her door then walked to the kitchen. She opened her fridge and sighed. Of course the little shit had already checked to see if there was food. He’d eaten everything except for the box of baking soda and a not too safe looking cucumber. She rolled her eyes and snapped her fingers, liking how her fridge automatically restocked itself. She pulled out the components to make a sandwich and heated up a pan. She cooked the sandwich as if it were a grilled cheese and took one of her mini Pepsi’s, that she enjoyed and loved dearly, to the back room. The boy had changed back and wrapped her comforter around himself. She could see the blood seeping through. She put the food on the night stand and went to the bathroom to get her healing kit. She walked back into her room and walked to kneel in front of the boy. His eyes were closed and he was shivering something fierce.
“Where are you hurt?” Her voice startled him and that worried her, he should’ve sensed her already. He opened the comforter to reveal a ninja star that had been lodged into his leg, and what looked to be the skimming of an arrow on his arm.
“Yikes, that looks painful.” She hissed through her teeth and dug through her bag. She didn’t do magic on people, not after the incident. So she took out a small little vile and a syringe.
“I’m gonna knock you out so I don’t hurt you when I pull out the-“
“I don’t want the medicine, I don’t like medicine.” He said under his breath, knowing she heard him.
“You’re gonna be in a world of pain if I don’t.” She said slowly, putting the medicine and syringe back in her bag.
“I don’t care, just no medicine.” His voice shook as he talked and more blood trickled from both wounds. She sighed and pulled on some gloves, careful not to make them snap.
“You’re not allergic to latex, are you?”
“The only thing I’m allergic to is silver, nothing more. Please, just take it out.” She nodded and grabbed the ninja star carefully.
“On the count of three.”
“One.” Her grip tightened slightly as she geared herself to pull.
“Two!” She yanked the ninja star out and grabbed gauze quickly, his face contorted with pain.
“Ah! Are you crazy! You said three!” She nodded as her hands moved quickly. She removed the gauze and got new pieces, this time soaking them with magic and putting them on his wound. His face cleared up and he let out a breath. She got a jumbo bandage and pressed it on there, then got another one and added it to the original. She took some wrapping tape and taped it on the wound and all around his leg, making sure it wouldn’t be able to move.
“You won’t be able to shift for a while, the magic I put on the gauze will clean, help with the pain, and keep your from doing that until it’s healed.” She looked to his arm and disinfected the area, seeing as this wasn’t that much of a dangerous wound she took her time. When she was finished she took off her gloves and picked up her mess. She took her medical bag and her mess with her into the bathroom to put everything away. She walked back into her room to find the boy eyeing the sandwich.
“Go ahead, eat up. I made it for you.” He looked to her with wide hazel eyes, making her heart do a quick flutter before calming down.
“I- thank you.” He smiled slightly, tightened the comforter around himself and walked to where the sandwich was. She sighed and spread out her hands, making them move upward. The comforter followed her hand movement and the boy stood there, shocked and nude.
“Hey!” She snapped her fingers and a bundle of clothes appeared in his hands, folded and neat.
“Wear those, take a shower though before you do.” He opened his mouth but she made a zipping motion over her lips.
“The bindings won’t loosen, no harm no foul. When you’re cleaned and you’ve eaten you can do whatever you want.” With that she walked away, careful not to show how shaky her hands were.
She groaned, trying her damnedest not to glare at her mother.
“But I don’t get why they have to eat here!” She whined, desperately trying not to yell or growl… or both.
“Because Sarah and Drew wanted a night to themselves, Luna.” Her mother chided softly, folding clothes and putting them in the pile of the child they belonged to.
“They haven’t been here that long to want a date night!”
“They’ve been here for two months!”
“I say they give it at least three months.” She said stubbornly, crossing her arms and lifting her chin. Her mother looked to her with a bemused
