“I’m here to help, not hurt.” She whispered, knowing the girl would hear her. The girl licked her lips and started to shiver. She though it was a test.
“No, it’s not a test. You can smell the truth can’t you?” She said, summoning magick and surrounding it around her cage and the surrounding cages. She nodded, her eyes lighting with hope. Valerie guessed it had been a while. She stood and looked at the small square of cages hat was huddled together. She knew if she’d kept walking there would be thousands of these cages.
“I’m letting you guys out, I’m a friendly fey. I can promise you, you’re all getting out today. I need you guys to help me though. My sense aren’t as strong or advanced as yours, you’ve got to warn me when you smell one of them. Ok?” They all nodded quickly and she let her magick spread. The cages were all disabled, the wolves opened them and stood. Different age groups were there, the oldest one had to be at least forty. She rushed them down the hallway, making sure to remain quiet. When she reached the end she summoned up a small amount of magick and tghrew it at the wall. A portal opened and she faced the wolves.
“This will lead you to a forest in Pennsylvania. When you get there run, wherever you can to hoever you can. No hunters are posted there, you’re free. Go, now.” She said, ushereing them into the pale portal. A man stopped, placing his hand on her arm.
“Why, why are you doing this?” He asked, tears filling his black eyes.
“Because it’s what’s right.” A voice said that wasn’t hers. She looked to her right to see Vanessa standing there with her hands on her hips. The man snatched his hand off of her and ran to the portal, picking up children as he went.
“I guess I shouldn’t have done that.” She said sheepishly, rubbing the back of her neck.
“It’s Ok Van, I could use a little help.”
“Will do.” Tigether they ran to the cages and used their power to disable the cages. The wolves ran out by the dozens, making sure to keep their footfalls light. The sirens started to wail and the sister s looked to each other. Together they summoned as much magic as they could and spread it out along the floor. All the cages were disabled and the wolves moved as much as they could. Valerie looked to the elevator that made a sound with each floor.
“Van!” She yelled, pushing her sister into the crowd of ever moving wolves.
“No, no! Val!” Her sister shrieked, trying to push her way back. Her blonde hair moved and swayed frantically as she fought the tide.
“Go Vanessa! I’ll see you out there!” She yelled, trusting the wolves to carry her sister out there. A life for a life. Her sister was weak, she’d used up too much of her magic. She wouldn’t be able to fight the horde without it. Three more dings until the hunters arrived,
“Promise me!” Vanessa cried as she let herself be carried out by one of the men.
“Promise what?”
“Promise me, I’ll see you out there!” She cried, tears streaming down her face. A tear pricked her eye and she smiled. Two more dings.
“I promise that you’ll see me, one day!” She said softly as she nodded, putting two fingers to her mouth and kissing them. Her sister nodded once, kissed her fingers and closed her eyes. One more ding. The last of the wolves ran through the portal and quickly shut it. Ding.
Chapter 27John growled at the hunter as it tried to keep him from his mate, he bit down on the hunters arm, then tugged. He didn’t care for the rest of the hunter, he merely jumped on him then ran to where her scent was heaviest. An elevator opened, bringing more hunters into the narrow hallway.
“There, she’s there!” He howled then stormed to the elevator, dodging and ducking the arrows and bullets as they shot towards her.
“Get her, bring her back to the pack.” Jake said, effortlessly as he ripped the head off of a female that got a little too close to a pack member. As if I needed reassurance from him, his new wolf snarled, kicking their hind legs harder and faster. He skidded to a stop in the elevator as it closed , he huffed and looked at the buttons. They all head letters, no numbers at all. He closed his eyes and took a deep sniff. He could smell her, he had no clue where, but she was here. Our mate is kind and caring, she’d stop at nothing to make sure our kin were safe, even to her last breath. John looked at the buttons and sat up, pressing the ‘W’ button. The elevator moved but John paid no mind, he just stayed focused. When the elevator stopped moving and the doors opened he saw his mate. She was wearing leather, looking like a full hunter, with her hands wide and open. Her eyes widened as her mouth fell open. She fell to her knees and put a hand over her mouth, shaking and trembling.
“I-it’s you… you’re actually h-here.” He took a claiming step forwar, dipping his head. Her blue eyes scanned his wolf body, stopping on his amber eyes.
“You’re not even going to give me a hug? Not even one of those wolfy kisses that I absolutely loathe?” She said, finally breaking down as tears fell from her eyes as she spread her arms wide open. His tongue lolled out as he loped to her, acting like nothing better than a love-sick puppy as he barreled into her.
“My God, I’ve missed you so much. You have no idea. Wait… what’re you doing here? Shouldn’t you be, ya know, up there?” She said, ruffling up the scruff of his neck. He yipped and licked her cheek. She giggle and looked into his eyes.
“This is what he meant, isn’t it? Him making a sacrifice? Me being happy?” Without John’s consent his wolf nodded, sticking his tonue back in his mouth.
“Who? Whose body did you take?” She asked softly, rubbing his fur in slow circles softly. His eyes turned black for a moment then back to amber.
“That’s a real clue you got there, thanks so much.” She giggled, fisting his fur in her hand and smiling a watery smile. The wolf nodded his head to the elevator, and she followed the look. She shook her head.
“No, we’ve got to go this way. I’ve got about two hundred wolves and fey sister I’ve got to get to.” She said standing, and flicking a small piece of magic at the wall. It turned a shimmery grey, rippling as if the wind was running along it’s surface.
“You coming?” She asked, right before she leapt into the wall, leaving him with no other choice than but to follow.
The clearing was fll of wolves, they were all helping and aiding each other. They did it quietly though, she saw, trying not to be too loud. Arms wrapped around her body and squeezed her close.
“Don’t ever do that to me again, you got that Valerie Simmons!” Vanessa yelled, kissing her sister all of her face and constricting her.
“Yeah, I got that. Mind letting go?” Vanessa chuckled and stepped back and put her hands on her, now, jean clad hips.
“Really? You put on someone’s clothing?”
“What? I had to play the part.” She grumbled, willing her clothing to change. She felt something brush against her leg and looked down, she smiled as her mate bristled at her sister.
“Who’s he?” She asked, looking down and frowning. Valerie bit her lip and shrugged.
“I know he’s my mate. That’s as much as I’m getting from him. Not much of a talker.” She said, rubbing her mates scruff.
“Well let’s fix this, I don’t appreciate the way he’s looking at me.” Van said, snapping her fingers and sending magic from her finger tips to coat her mate. It coated his black fur until the only thing that could be seen was a purple mist. Slowly the mist moved and shaped until the mist dissipitated. She looked to the sky and groaned.
“Great, you give me the Jolly Green Giant instead of the Ice Prince? Thanks so much.” She said light heartedly, looking up at the man who towered over her.
“She gave me Tinker Bell, don’t see me complaining.” He grumbled, struggling to cover up his items. She rolled her eyes and willed clothes to form. A grey cotton shirt slid over his muscles and dark fitted jeans covered his muscular legs.
“Better?”
“Better.” He said, smiling and peering into her blue eyes.
“I’m sorry, for your loss. And I’m sorry I wasn’t able to find you sooner and rip apart those who dared touch you.” She smirked as his hand brushed her cheek softly.
“Ya know, I think I could get used to this.”
He looked down at his mate, his gift from Mother Moon as she smirked up at him. A throat cleared and he looked to the older taller version of his mate, this version came up to his shoulder.
“Not trying to wreck the moment, but it seems my sister has acted in the spur of the moment. How are we supposed to transport these wolves, safely, to different locations?” His mate sighed and looked at the sky.
“You always think I’m slow, Van. I’v planned this for awhile now. Why’d you think I sent them here and not directly into someone’s basement?” She said as the sky above them turned grey as the surrounding clouds swirled together creating a dark mass. People fell from the clouds, landing gently and walking to where him and his mate stood. Good lord, he thought as his hackles raised, they’re all naked.
“Hezekiah, Jakob. I’m glad you heard my distress call.” She said, moving to stand in front of the males.
“Holy Gaia, there must be at least a hundred wolves here Hezekiah.” Pone male said, his eyes brows shooting up to his buzz cut as he took in the big numbers. The male named Hezekiah looked to his mate with respect in his eyes.
“I take it you had to kill for this?” He asked, he felt his mate tense up and in return he did the same.
“Stay calm, wolf, we mean her no harm. He’s just asking a simple question.” Jakob said, without looking at him. A ferocious snarl was on the way out of his lips when a tiny hand wrapped around his forearm. He looked down to see his mate shaking her head at him. She looked back to Hezekiah and nodded once.
“You can wipe off 30 names on that list. Not sure which one is which, but I do know I killed 30.” She says softly, it broke him knowing it hurt her to do what needed to be done.
“Enough about what happened. Do you have placement for them?” She said, trying hard to keep her voice from cracking.
“We should. You’ve done nothing
