โGreetings, ya bastards!โ she said with a wide grin, her canines looking fresh and sharp.
We all cheered, and there were hugs all around.

I was hanging out in the library with Raina later, her pouring through Seamusโ collection of rare magickal books while I enjoyed more of Gaiaโs Fae weed.
โDamn!โ Raina said, turning the page in a hand-written magickal spell-bookโฆ also known as a grimoireโฆ and shaking her head. โThis guy really had a thing about researching legends of the Sorceress.โ
โWhat does he say?" I asked, exhaling a thick stream of smoke.
โWell, he got a lot right.โ she began. โFor example, not a hereditary position, nobody knows who will be called until the year before they come of age, discerning who is to be the Sorceress is an unknown skillโฆ โ
โWhich Vincent canโt help us with, either.โ I cut in. โPetronia, Angeliqueโs first Sorceress, came to her in a vision and pointed them in the right direction. It still took them months to find me.โ
โSee?โ Raina turned another page. โShitโs hard.โ She read on. โNow here is some interesting stuff.โ she said, pointing at the page. โIt says here that the โCourt of the Sorceressโ always includes Faeโฆ that your magick is closely related to Fae magick.โ
โYou should know a thing or two about Fae magick.โ I said.
โActually, Iโm still pretty clueless.โ she replied. โTheyโve built up magickal spell shortcuts over centuries. โSay word โXโ while focusing your will through the Fae crystal produces โYโ resultโ, and so on. Most Fae donโt learn the inner workings until theyโre much older.โ
โDoes it say anything else about this โCourt of the Sorceressโ?โ I asked, leaning in.
โNot very much hereโฆ โ she replied, turning a few pages. โIt says that the Court has Fae, other Witches, and a Warlord, who directs the legion of the Sorceress.โ
โLegion?โ I said, eyes wide. โPast Sorceresses have had legions? Where did this guy hear that?!?โ
โSee, thereโs this book.โ Raina said, turning a few pages back. โIโve seen it referenced by a few different peopleโฆ here it is!โ she said triumphantly. โItโs called โIn the Court of the Crimson Cauldronโ, and itโs by โGeoffrey of Manchesterโ. Ridiculously difficult to get, some fear that itโs lostโฆ โ
โOh, itโs not lost.โ Tiffany said, walking into the room. She walked over and sat in the last unoccupied chair by the fire.
โHey there.โ I replied. โHowโs Jazzy doing?โ
โAh, sheโs off on a hunt with Seamus and Vincent.โ Tiffany said, pulling out her own joint. โIntel just came in on a pedophilia ring that has a video location in a nearby residence. Newborn vampires are very hungry, so they decided to go clear it out.โ
โI know what Vincent does to pedophiles.โ I said with a slight shudder. โSheโs going to learn from the best.โ
โSo whatโs this about that book not being lost?โ Raina asked, still focused.
โMy Uncle has a copy.โ she replied, lighting up. She took a deep hit and then let it out. โHe used to read to me from itโฆ or, I should say, from type-written sheets copied directly from a hand-written copy of an original copy thatโs currently being held in the most secure location in the world, my Uncleโs private vaultโฆ when I was a little girl.โ
โSee, this is kind of a strange part.โ I said. โI was, like, someoneโs childhood bedtime stories!โ
โHe got the copy from his Father, and was raised the same way.โ Tiffany continued. โItโs why he let Trevor Hawkinsโฆ someone who heโs told me he wants to torture on many occasionsโฆ into his compound. Itโs why heโs showing such devotion to you. Itโs why heโs not charging the three thousand dollars a day that heโd normally charge for someone with my trainingโs services.โ
โThree thousand?โ I said, surprised. โHow much of that goes to you, and how much to the house?โ
โItโs always two to one with my Uncle: two thirds to the operative, one third to my Uncle.โ Tiffany said. โThatโs not just me, itโs everyone who goes on missions for hire.โ
โWowโฆ so youโre sacrificing some serious bank to be here.โ I said, eyebrows raised.
โItโs an honor to be, if not in the Court of the Sorceress, then Court adjacent.โ she replied.
โOh, you are in my court, whatever that is right now!โ I said firmly. โEveryone who lives in the mansion or on the grounds is a part of my inner circle, and I depend on every one of you.โ
โThank you.โ she said, her voice genuinely touched. โIt is, indeed, an honor.โ
โHave you checked your bank account lately?โ Raina asked, her own eyebrows raised.
โNo.โ Tiffany said. โI havenโt had to spend any money since I came with you guys, so I havenโt been worried about my balance. Why?โ
Raina grinned. โCheck it. Right now.โ
Tiffany looked confused but pulled out her smartphone anyway. "Where's the damn app? Oh, here it is!" she muttered, and started pushing buttons once the app opened. A moment went by before her eyes went wide. She almost dropped her phone. "What the serious fuck?"
โVincent and Angelique are wealthy.โ I said, smiling at her reaction to her bank balance. โLike, stupidly wealthy. Like, governments-would-ask-for-loans-if-they-knew wealthy.โ
โAngeliqueโs been a vampire for sixteen hundred years.โ Raina added. โNow, if thereโs something that typifies the economic models that have evolved over the past one thousand six hundred years, itโs that wealth begets wealth. The more money you have, the easier it is to get more.โ
โVincentโs never given me a total on how much their holdings are worth,โ I continued, โbut they have enough squirreled away around the world thatโฆ letโs just say those news stories about the first trillion-airs? Theyโre late to the party.โ
โWell, there goes my need to ever work another day in my life!โ Tiffany said, putting her phone away.
โSo,
