“Against STDs. I know.”
“And him being a rock star probably means he’s been around.”
“Delaney.” The horrified sound in my voice surprised even me. “Don’t say that.”
“Why? You know it’s probably true.”
“I know, but I don’t want to hear it.”
She held her hands up in defeat. “You’re right. I’m sorry.”
“We didn’t have sex last night, but we did… other stuff…”
The excitement was back. “Did he go down on you? Give you your first orgasm?”
That was when I remembered that I hadn’t caught her up to date. “Actually, he gave me my first orgasm in his car at the park on Friday night.”
“Oh, my baby’s growing up,” she said like a proud mother. “What was it like? Tell me everything so I can live vicariously through you.”
“We don’t have time. I’m sorry. I’ll tell you everything, but it ended with a police officer tapping on his window.”
“Oh, god.”
“It was fine. The officer is friends with his brother, so nothing happened, but I was mortified.”
“So what happened last night?
“Well… He did it again… but not with his fingers…”
“He gave you oral?” she asked. I nodded. “You know, Jurnie, this is going to sound really weird, but the fact that he went down on you before you’d done anything to him and it didn’t end in sex says something about him.”
If this was another shot at his experience, I was going to smack my sister. “What’s it say?”
“First of all, that he’s not out only for his pleasure. My friends and I call that big dick energy. You’ll have to let me know when you see it.”
“I saw it.” The words tumbled out of my mouth and I slapped my hand over it as if I were stopping something worse from coming out. “Last night.”
“But you said…”
“I…” My fingers instinctively played at the hem of my shirt. “Returned the favor, I guess you could say.”
“Oh, wow.” She packed up her makeup bag then stood. I did too because it was only a matter of minutes before our Mom would call us to go. Dad was already at the church preparing for the day. The three of us would come in and take our seats in the front pew to listen intently to what Dad wanted us to learn this week. “That, I wasn’t expecting,” she said.
I followed her to the bathroom. “Is that bad?” It shouldn’t have mattered what she thought. It hadn’t mattered last night, but standing in the light of the day, I wanted to know.
“No.” She shook her head. Her hair brushed against her back. “Not bad if you wanted to do it.”
“I did. I was curious.” I was playing with my hem again. It was surprising that more of my shirts weren’t ruined. “I let him… in my mouth.”
“Damn, Jurnie. You went all in, didn’t you? What’d you think?”
“Not a fan.”
She laughed and shook her head. “Me, either.”
Before we could get into it any further, Mom called for us. We began our climb up the stairs after she snagged her purse. Mine was already hanging across my body.
“Just think,” Delaney started. “Now you get to sit in front of Dad at church replaying that scene over and over in your head.”
I stopped on the stairs halfway up. “I wasn’t going to, but now I will. That’s not nice, Delaney.”
“Payback for dating a hot rock star,” she whispered so Mom wouldn’t hear us, which made us both giggle.
I knew I’d wanted to talk to her, but now I wished I hadn’t. Keeping myself from thinking about last night was going to be tough.
Three hours later, I was back out in the sunlight. The sermon didn’t last that long, but Dad always wanted us to greet people as a family when we all came. That added at least an hour.
Before I’d gone in, I’d sent Bonham a snap of me smiling with the caption, “Church Girl.”
When I got out, there was a reply from him with his hand over his face as his elbow rested on his knee. There was no caption. It was left for me to decipher. If it meant what I thought it meant, all I could do was laugh.
Before driving away, I snapped a pic of my scowling and typed out, Unfortunately, I thought about last night the whole time. I didn’t check my phone again until I got out to the school library. This time, he’d sent me possibly the sexiest one of him yet. He was fully clothed, but one corner of his mouth was turned up in a smirk and one of his eyebrows were raised. Again, no caption. I screenshotted that baby.
We were done pretending that we weren’t going to do that to the sexier pics.
It was hard to focus on the project that afternoon. All of us seemed a little scattered, actually. Good thing we’d scheduled for tonight too. We’d decided to get it all done in one go and I didn’t think even one of us thought we’d get out of there before they closed at eleven. Too bad I’d made this agreement before I’d met Bonham. The day for him to leave was coming up quickly and we hadn’t even talked about what we were to each other or how this was going to work while he was gone.
He’d messaged me asking where to pick me up. I’d told him I could meet him, but he insisted and was sitting at the curb outside the library when I walked out. I didn’t feel comfortable leaving my backpack with my laptop inside, so I brought that with me and swung it into the backseat when I climbed in.
“Hey, baby,” he said when I shut the door then leaned over for a quick kiss. “What would you like to eat tonight?”
“A big, juicy burger sounds delicious.”
“A big, juicy burger it is.”
He pulled away and seemed to know the closest place. We decided to eat inside and since it was right by the campus, it didn’t take long to get
