“Jurnie,” Brian began. “Does this mean you’ve started listening to Pushing Daisies?”
I snickered. “It does.”
“And?”
“They’re amazing, of course. Daisy is awesome at everything and the guys are so talented.” Bonham squeezed my hip when I mentioned his sister. “I’m sorry I didn’t listen to them sooner.”
“Let’s get back to business.” Ned cleared his throat. “I’d definitely ask a million questions about you two but we don’t have the time right now. Everyone probably knows this story, but in case there are some out there that haven’t heard it, how did you all decide to form the band?”
Daltrey scooted to the edge of his seat. “My brothers and I started tinkering in middle school. Mom and Dad had us all in lessons early and we loved it. But it wasn’t until we heard Daisy sing that we knew we needed her to complete the band. Once she came on, that was when we knew we had something.”
“Was it hard growing up with her?” Ned asked. “The rumor is she’s a musical genius.”
“She is,” Bonham told him. “We should bring her in sometime and you can test her.”
Daltrey was nodding. “She can play anything.”
“Anything?” Brian asked.
“Anything.”
They talked a little more about music and the tour and what it was like to open for Courting Chaos.
“One last question on a personal note.” Brian turned in his chair. “What about you, Daltrey? Seeing anyone?”
“Nah.” That was all he said.
“And we know you are, Bonham—”
“This should be called the Hookup Tour,” Ned said, then he laughed at his own joke. “If rumors are accurate, three out of the four of you are now taken.”
“How did you two meet?” Brian asked, ignoring Ned altogether. “Is it a great story?”
“Or a cute one?” Ned added.
Bonham smiled, but I moved as the idea of having that out there made me uncomfortable. He laid his hand over mine and squeezed.
“We met at a bookstore,” he told them. “But anything else, I think we’ll keep for ourselves.”
My chest deflated. I’d filled it with too much air then held my breath.
I knew it wasn’t reasonable as it was happening. Most likely, the guy who had been harassing me that day wasn’t listening. More than that, it probably didn’t matter even if he did have the radio on.
“Well, I think that’s all we’re going to get,” Ned told the audience. “We’d like to thank Bonham and Daltrey Thompson for coming in today and if you don’t have your tickets for next Friday night to see Courting Chaos and Pushing Daisies, I hear that there are still some tickets left.”
“Not a lot,” Brian said. “So get them ASAP. You’re not going to want to miss it.”
The on-air sign went dark and music began playing softly in the background.
“Thanks for playing along, Jurnie,” Ned told me with a nod.
That was my dismissal.
I glanced at Bonham and rubbed my lips together slowly.
“I’ll see you later,” I told him quietly.
“Yeah, you will.” That playful glint was back as a definite reminder that we both knew exactly what was happening tonight.
I didn’t head back to my desk in the hope that they wouldn’t be in the studio long and I’d at least get to say goodbye to Bonham before he left. I wasn’t disappointed.
Not a minute later, the guys came out. Mack and Daltrey both gave me a curt nod then headed outside.
“Can you take a minute?” Bonham asked after he stopped in front of me.
I nodded. “Sure.” As we passed the receptionist's desk, I asked her if she could let my supervisor know I was taking my break. She gave me a thumbs-up and now I had fifteen minutes of free time for my boyfriend.
My boyfriend. He’d said it on air, but we hadn’t talked about it yet.
Which meant I had been willing to have sex with a guy who wasn’t technically my boyfriend. This morning, I hadn’t even thought about it.
After following Bonham out of the station, we rounded the corner to where there was a little sitting area, but no one could see us from the parking lot. This was where a lot of cigarette breaks took place.
“Sorry I didn’t warn you we were coming here today,” he told me, settling his hands on my hips. Instinctively, I set my hands on his arms. It was a huge stretch to go any higher.
“Not a problem.”
“I forgot about it until this morning when Mack sent a text asking if I was ready. Didn’t even have a chance to shower.”
“You look good for not showering,” I said. He did. He had that messy, swoony look about him that women loved. “Very rock star chic.”
He chuckled. “Don’t worry. I’ll shower before tonight.”
“Why?” I smiled up at him. “Is something going on tonight?”
He groaned then nuzzled into my neck. “If you’ve changed your mind, that’s totally fine, but don’t fuck with me.” We both laughed. His body moving was the only way I could tell it was happening since his face was still resting on my shoulder.
“I haven’t changed my mind,” I assured him, running my fingertips down the back of his neck. “You have to feed me first, though.”
His head snapped up. “Already taken care of.”
“Are you going to let me drive to your apartment?” I asked. He hadn’t yet. Not once.
“Yeah.” He sighed as if he were making some great sacrifice. “You can drive over. Do you remember the address?” he asked. I shook my head. “I’ll text it to you.”
As if he couldn’t help it, Bonham leaned down and claimed my lips. It was a slow, steady kiss that was much too quick as far as I was concerned. But I was at work and probably shouldn’t have been kissing him at all.
I watched him walk away before I headed back in to finish my day and wondered if Bonham knew how good he looked from the back.
