Hearing everybody talking, laughing, clinging of wine glasses and getting congratulation’s from friends and family at my wedding was nice. Rachael was sitting next to me in her elegant, white wedding gown talking to her mother and younger sister Quinn. Her mother was wearing a pink floral dress with sleeves that came down to her elbows, she wore a diamond heart necklace, and a silver watch on her right wrist. Rachael’s sister was wearing a strapless purple dress that came down to her knees. Quinn stood up and held up her 8mm, digital camera in front of her face. “Okay, can I get a picture of the bride and groom?” she says. Rachael leaned into me and Quinn snapped a picture of us. “Thank you. Now come with me I need a beautiful picture of the two of you for your wedding present from me.” Quinn took Rachael’s hand and Rachael took my hand and we formed a small line, Quinn leading us outside of the Country Club to the back where there was a gazebo. Rachael still had a hold of my hand and we stood under the gazebo. “Milo can wrap your arms around her shoulders for me.” I wrapped my arms around my wife like I was protecting her. “Yeah, like that. Rachael can you put your hands over his.” Me and Rachael’s hands were covering her chest were her heart-shaped locket was. Quinn smiled and looked into the camera and snapped off a couple of pictures. “Ok Rachael can you face him and put your hands on his arms.” Rachael did as so. “Milo, wrap your arms around her again.” I did as she said.
“I love you.” I whispered to her
“I love you too.” Rachael said. I kissed her forehead and heard the sound of Quinn’s camera snapping another picture.
“Can I have you two look at each other now… yeah.” I looked at Rachael and she looked at me. Her green eyes made me melt inside. Hearing another snap made me not want anymore pictures taken of me.
“Now the bride needs a picture with the bridesmaid.” Quinn handed me her camera without protest. Rachael wrapped an arm around her sister and so did Quinn, and they lay their heads slightly together and then smiled. I snapped off a picture.
“Okay I should go and dance with dad before he starts complaining.” Rachael said. We all shared smiles and Rachael went on ahead of us.
“What are your plans for your guys honeymoon?” Quinn asked without hesitation as we walked into the club.
“Well, your grandparents gave us a plan tickets to Brazil.”
“Rachael loves it there. We went there with are parents when we were teens, I was thirteen and she was seventeen. We went to the beach there and it was so nice but the one thing that I freaked was if there were sharks and so it took Rachael to persuade me that there weren’t any sharks in the water there.” Quinn laughs and laughed with her. I saw Rachael dancing with her and Quinn’s father. As they twirled, her dress flowed. Some of the guests started dancing along. I held out my hand in front Quinn and she stared at it.
“Could I have permission to dance with the bride’s younger sister?” I smiled and bowed slightly.
“Me, dance, hell no.” She said. But I kept my hand up and insisted.
“Take off your shoes and stand on my feet.” She gave in and took off her shoes placed them in a chair next to my aunt and put her camera there too.
“Can you watch these for me?” she asked my aunt and my aunt nodded yes. Quinn straightened her dress and took my hand and followed me to the dance floor. She faced me and placed one hand on my shoulder and the other in my hand, I placed my hand on her upper back. She placed her feet on mine and almost looked at me straight in the eye. Her eyes were a blue-grey and they were beautiful like her sisters. I moved one foot forward and the other to the right followed by the other foot. We were doing a basic waltz step. Quinn was shaky but smiling in fear.
“Are you okay?” I chuckled a little.
“Oh… No….. I’m a huge klutz so I feel like I’m gonna fall.” Her voice was shaky just like her whole petit body. She clung to me like she was glued to me.
“Don’t worry, you’re not gonna fall and I won’t drop you. So relax and breathe in and exhale out.” I whispered in her ear in a gentle comforting voice. She closed her eyes and breathes in and out and she stopped shaking and was completely relaxed. We swayed from side to side and back and forth and her eyes were still shut. Once the music stopped, Quinn stepped off of my feet and smiled one last time.
“Thank you.” She just walked off without me saying ‘you’re welcome.’ Rachael came towards me and wrapped her arms around my neck.
“Was it just me or were you dancing with my sister?” she smiles at me.
“Yes.” I answered with a smile.
“She hates dancing ya’ know.”
“I’ve noticed its okay I got her relaxed.”
“Oh really, well at least she can keep you busy while I’m gone for two minutes.” We both laughed and we hugged and danced along with the music.
You’re still my girl, though.” She lays her head on my chest as I held her close to me as we swayed back and forth to the music.
I felt something when Milo and I were dancing, when he whispered into my ear to calm me while dancing, when I clung to him feeling how warm he was. No...No...No. I can’t fall in love with him, he’s married to my sister but he’s nice and caring and…. And…. And… He cares a lot about Rachael. But I don’t have to deal with my feelings; I’ve got to go my apartment and go pack. As I left the Country Club, there was something I forgot. I could feel the cold cement under my bare feet and my camera wasn’t around my neck. “Damn it.” I whispered to myself. I went back into the club and passed a whole bunch of people looking for where I put my shoes and camera. I was frustrated, twirling around and put my hand through my hair in frustration. “Damn it Milo, why do you do this to me?” I said to myself again.
“Do what to you?” I heard a familiar male voice from behind me. My eyes widened and my hand dropped to my side hitting my thigh. I turned around and it was Milo holding my shoes and camera.
“Nothing!” I said lying.
“Oh, you forgot these.” He handed me my shoes and camera. “Are you okay?” he looked at me with a confused look in his face.
“Yeah, thank you. Um… Goodbye.” I just turned around and left without him hearing him say goodbye back.
As I exited out of the country club I put my shoes on while trying to walk away at the same time. Hopping to put the second shoe on, I dropped my camera. “Damn it!” I knelt down to my knees and picked up the pieces that were all over the ground in front of me. I found the memory card and examined it for any scratches or cracks as I headed to my car. My window was open and I threw the pieces on the passenger seat next to me. “Well at least that’s still alive.” I stood up holding the pieces of the camera, grabbed my key out of my little purple sequenced purse that matched my dress. I put the key in the ignition and started the car. My car roared when it started. I pulled it out of park and backed up out of the spot. I put the car in drive and then drove out of the parking lot.
I opened my apartment door and pulled the key out of the lock. I closed the door behind me and headed towards the living room. As I walked, I was taking off my shoes and throwing them anywhere because I was too damn tired. I first headed into the kitchen, which was small. I opened the fridge and the only thing that was in it was a six pack of bottled Samuel Adams and leftover Chinese. I grabbed a bottle of beer and the Chinese. I grabbed my bottle opener and opened the bottle. I put the Chinese in the microwave and dodged past the counter, I was in my living room. The living room was painted a dark blue, the chair next my couch on the right was dark purple. I sat on my hot red couch and turned on the T.V. I flipped through channels and saw that there was a rerun of Gilmore Girls was on. I was chugging a beer with one hand holding the bottle and the other hand was taking off the itchy pantyhose my mother gave me for my sister’s wedding. I throw the pantyhose on the other side of the couch. On the episode of Gilmore Girls, Luke kisses Lorelei because he so madly in love with her, and Lorelei was in love with him too. I stood up still drinking my beer and I headed into my room and grabbed my suitcase that was filled with my cloths. Can’t wait to go to go to Mexico next week. I thought to myself. I chugged the last swig of beer and shook the bottle in disappointment so I threw it in the garbage hearing it hit the other bottle in the trash can. I grabbed another one from the fridge and opened it and grabbed my Chinese food from the microwave. I stood in the small kitchen and ate my leftovers all by my lonesome.
When I finished my Chinese and second bottle of beer I wobbled to my bedroom. I didn’t bother to turn on the lights I just hobbled into the bathroom. I turned on the lights in the bathroom and I turned on the shower. I unzipped my dress and let it slide off of my petite body. I took off the jewelry I had on before I walked into the shower. The shower was nice and hot how I liked it. I lathered my hair in the water and water streamed down my body and face. I could feel the mascara was dripping down my face too because I could see some spots of black going down the drain of the shower. After fifteen minutes in the shower I hopped out and put a towel
