“Where the hell are you Sakshi???” I started with heated tone.

“I was having dinner and my mobile was on silent mode, so could not hear your call. So tell me why you are calling at this hour so madly.” She said being normal as if nothing had happened between us.

“It’s more than a week? You didn’t call me.” I said straight.

“So you were expecting my call?? Can’t you call on your own… but why would you do that…. you and your male ego.” She said mockingly.

“Sakshi, its nothing like that. I value my relationship more than my ego. Had it not been the case I wouldn’t have call you.”

“Ohhh really???? That’s so humble of you.” She mocked again.

“Stop it Sakshi, I have not call you to start over it again. I called you because I have something important to say and I want to meet you as soon as possible.”

“Ohhh.. so what is so important that you can’t say now over phone.” She insisted.

“No Sakshi, it’s very important. Can’t we meet please? I said.

“Okay….i have an off tomorrow. I will come to your place. Even I have something very important to tell you.”

“Great….then come in the morning. I will leave for office little late tomorrow.” I said with eagerness.

“Okay I will…Bye.” She said and was about to disconnect.

“Wait Sakshi!!!!….Comon atleast say it in a nice way. What is it just plain “Bye.” I said mocking her.

“Rohit I am very tired and feeling very sleepy. Good night and take care.” She said and disconnected the call.

I looked at my cellphone and was shocked by her strange attitude. “Anyways let her come tomorrow. I will make her mood; she is still upset with our last fight.” I said trying to console myself. We haven’t had a good outing since long after she joined her work. She has off tomorrow and I will bunk my office and we would go for a nice movie, then some great evening spending at the Elliot Park and finally a fantastic dinner at her favorites Restaurant. Everything will be fine the way it used to be. We had enough of arguments and conflict and it’s the time to rekindle our old magic. I will surprise her with flowers and chocolates, I am sure that will bring back our old lost love, I convinced myself.

The next morning I got up early and was busy preparing breakfast for both of us. I prepared veg sandwich and omelets, I was preparing tea and heard the gate pushing sound in the ground floor and I was sure it must be her and as said she entered. I looked at her and smiled, she look at me and went inside without saying anything. After sometime I entered with two plates and offered her one of them.

“Thanks Rohit, but I just had my breakfast.” She said pushing back the plate towards me.

“But Sakshi at least have some, I prepared especially for you.” I said giving her the plate back.

“No Rohit, I am almost full. Please you have” She said and kept the plate aside.

“Okay fine, at least have the tea.” I said

“You know very well I don’t drink tea.” She said looking at me.

“Ohhhh yes!!!!! Wait I will make coffee for you.” I said while keeping my plate on table.

“No Rohit, you just sit I have something important to say.”

“Why are you looking so upset honey? Is everything fine? See if it’s because of that day, then I am sorry for that. I called you to sort out our misunderstandings. We had enough of these silly conflicts, we are getting married soon in just few months and we both need to act maturely. You see i have started counting the days as well, its 1st August today and as decided on your 24th birthday i.e. 27th December 2010, exactly after 149 days will be our marriage ceremony. I have already started saving the money for it.” I said and took a bite of sandwich from my plate.

She kept quiet with her eyes glaring the white marble floor.

“Say something Jaan, why are you so quiet. Is something bothering you badly.” I said while continuing my breakfast.

“Rohit…… I am sorry.” She said and became silent again.

“Sorry for what??? Ohhh honey forget all that happened on that day. It wasn’t your fault alone.” I said taking sip from my mug.

“No Rohit, it’s not about that day fight but it’s about the thing that I am going to tell you now” She said trying to avoid my eyes that were now observing her closely.

“Sakshi….tell me what is it?? What is bothering you so much?” I said still continuing with my breakfast.

“Rohit…. I can’t marry you!!!!!!!” She said and stopped.

“Sakshi stop joking.” I said and smiled at her.

“No Rohit I am very serious and you better be too!!!!! I have come here for the last time to make this clear between us that I am getting out of this relation.” She said all that in a single breath.

I was about to take a sip from my cup but with her last sentence I felt like something choked my throat. I kept my cup down and came near her.

“Are you out of your mind?? You know what you are saying, in few months we are getting married.” I said looking at her.

“Rohit I very much mean each single word of my sentence that you just heard. I can’t marry you. Its better we part our ways amicably.” She said looking into my eyes.

This time I got sure; she is really serious about what she is saying.

“What do you mean by we should part our ways. Is this a joke for you? Your family knows everything; my family is getting busy with marriage arrangements, now you say you can’t marry? May I know the reason behind your drastic decision?” I said holding her arms.

“Rohit try to understand, taking this decision was not even easy for me. But I have huge responsibility vested upon me. Mom is not agreeing with I getting married to you. She has threatened me if I get married then she will commit suicide.” She said and started crying.

“All of sudden what happened? How could she say something like this? I am shock to hear that. She had whole heartedly accepted our relationship.”

“Yes she had earlier. But as slowly everyone came to know about our relationship, all my relatives are blaming her for the shame that she has bought to our family by accepting this inter-caste marriage. Dad is no more and we need a male guardian, so as per Mom’s request Mahesh Uncle has come to stay with us permanently. Mom’s mind started diverting especially after he came to know about our relationship and had a heated argument with her last week.”

“Her mind is diverted or yours?” I said staring at her

“Ohhh Rohit stop it!!!!! You have always doubted my loyalty. I know very well what you mean to say by that…. see I am not having affair with Vimal or anyone. If you ever found that I cheated on you, simply kill me. I will not utter a word. Let me very clear this to you that I am not going to marry ever. I am going to lead my entire life taking care of my mother and Raju.” She said raising her voice louder and countering my allegations.

“But for me it’s hard to believe your reason for leaving me. See if you really have lost interest in me you can confess that. I will happily let you go. Please don’t fool me around.”

“Rohit I swear I am not having affair with anyone. If you still don’t believe me you can easily find out the same, you know all my friends and relatives. Fact is that according to Mahesh Uncle my act has brought huge shame in our family. He rebuked both Mom and me ghastly for this. He has also threatened us with dire consequences if we overlook his warnings.”

“There was a time when you were ready fight with the whole world for me and now just because your maternal uncle is not accepting our relationship you want to back out. What’s wrong with you?? We will get married and this December itself. Let me have a word with your so called Mahesh uncle. I am coming to your house today evening.” I said being adamant.

“Rohit there is no point of doing so, you have not ever met him, and he is a very short tempered person. Please don’t create any more scenes. After thinking for the entire week I have come to this decision. I know it’s tough for both of us to depart but…Please Rohit let me go.” She begged me with tears rolling out of her eyes.

“Stop it Sakshi, you don’t need to be scared, nothing like such will happen. I am coming to your house and that is final?? I assure I will fix everything. You had confidence in me earlier….right?? Than why are you so scared now? We will get married and that also with everyone’s approval… trust me Jaan.” I said holding her in my arms.

“Rohit please try to understand. It’s over between us. Your Mom was also not happy with our union. So you better marry the girl of her choice.” Sakshi said pushing me back.

“True she was not happy earlier but she has now accepted you whole heartedly. In fact few days back she called me to confirm, are we really getting married this Dec? What will I say to her? Sakshi you can’t back out after going so far together we are almost to reach our destination. No Sakshi No you can’t do this to me, I can’t even imagine my life without you.” I said and tears started rolling from my eyes.

“Rohit I know it’s hard for you but you will start forgetting everything once you get married. You will have a new person in your life, who will change your life completely.” She said looking at me.

“Can you forget everything so easily??? Can you marry someone else?? You know very well Sakshi we were not lovers who met romanced holding hand in hand and parted their ways in few months. We were almost married…do I need to remind you???? Search your body and soul, the answer you will find yourself. It’s impossible, so please don’t say such things that I can’t do.”

“Rohit I just want to see you happy…. You get married and settle in your life. I am not a perfect match for you. Your Mom will find a better bride for you. Go with her decision.
