I knew God watches everything, never does in justice, it was sheer luck or my destiny somehow came to know the truth. Had it not been Avani’s call today in the evening. I would have kept on cursing myself entire life for that happened. I went to the other room and bowed in front of Lord Krishna. I thanked him for showing me the way, for making me believe it was not my fault, I felt solace. I had enough of mental trauma in these last two weeks. Now it was her turn to face the music.

I immediately called Avani and request her to be at Sakshi’s home tomorrow in the morning before 9:00 am; firstly she was very scared and requested me to not involve her in this. But I convinced her I am not going to create any scene. I just want her to confess in front of everyone that it was not me who broke this marriage like she had given impression to everyone but it was she who decided to call it off. I want her to admit in front of everyone that the premeditatedly ditched me for Vimal. I just want to hear this from her and I would leave her peacefully. I swear Avani I will not involve you in this and finally she agreed. I then called Sanjeev and Nikhil and asked him to accompany me to Sakshi’s house. I also called few of her other relatives as well.

I could not sleep that night but I knew by this time she must have been aware that everything about her relationship is now crystal clear to me and she would be cursing herself that the why hell, she didn’t erase those recordings and messages from her mobile. There was no escape for her as well. So we both were having sleepless night in our respective beds the difference was only that now I am resting in peace while she must be unrest. I spend the entire night listening to her recordings and reading her text messages. I was eagerly waiting for the morning and kept on checking the time. Finally I got up at seven in the morning. Took a nice shower wore my best dress had a nice breakfast and came out of house around 8:00 am. I called Sanjeev and Nikhil and ask them to meet near Sakshi’s home. I called Avani and she confirmed that she and other two relatives would reach there in next half an hour. I thanked her for agreeing to my request.

As schedule Sanjeev and Nikhil were there near the flat. I got down from the rickshaw, I had a bag in my hand, Sanjeev asked what is there inside that?? I said it’s all the belongings of her and our love mementos that I wanted to return to her. Sanjeev was really curious what I was up to and kept me advising while we were climbing stairs that I shouldn’t do anything that will ruin my image in front of Aunty and everyone.

I said, “Don’t worry; I am not going to create any scene. I am here with just a simple motive once done I would leave happily out of her life forever.”

I pushed the door bell and it was opened by Raju…

“Hey Rohit Da, what happened so early in the Morning?”

“Yeah Raju, I had to finalize few things with Sakshi.” I said and smiled while entering.

Aunty was as usual in the kitchen preparing breakfast. There was her Mahesh Uncle watching television while sitting on sofa. He gave me a naïve look but I didn’t care. Sanjeev and Nikhil sat there on opposite sofa while I entered Sakshi’s room. She was getting ready for office and was combing her hair near the dressing table. She saw my reflection in the mirror and turned back, her face became red. She knew what I was up to.

“Rohit...i beg you. Please don’t create any scene. It was between us, we can sort this outside on our own.”

“Sakshi you always took me wrong, I am not here to abuse you for what you did with me. See I am totally fresh, no alcohol. You don’t need to be scared.” I came and released my breath near her face.

“What do you want??? It’s over between us Rohit, why don’t you understand. You can’t get me back with your roadside stunts.”

“Who said it’s over??? It was over but today it going to end forever. It’s not you who will decide every time. Like four and half years back you decided you want to fall in love with me. Let me have the privilege to end this….. babyyy?”

“Why you are doing this to me. You once loved me truly.” She said with low voice.

“Yes I did, but that was blunder I will regret my entire life.”

“What do you want Rohit????”

“Your confession in front of everyone!!!”

“Confession??? What kind of confession.”

She said and my mobile ringed. Wait you will understand in few minutes, I said and answered the call.

“Yeah Avani, you can come I am there in Aunty’s flat.” I said and disconnected the call.

“What are you upto?? Why have you called Avani???”

“It’s not only Avani, her Mom and Sujata Aunty and few of your relatives are also there. They had witness our courtship for so many years, it will be unfair if I don’t invite them when we are closing this chapter forever…after all they are your relatives, you should have told them…right? But didn’t lady. Also Sanjeev and my friend Nikhil are waiting outside in the hall with your dear Mahesh uncle. I wanted Kaushik to be here as well. But he is out of town. You see when we announced our marriage there were so many of relatives from your side. So I want their witness when you publically call off our marriage.” I said while sitting on her bed.

“Isn’t that a great idea? You see you always praise me for my witty. I have always maintained transparency in our relationship and I always expected the same from you but you always disappointed me. So please obliged to my last and final request and maintain transparency about calling off our relationship.” I said chuckling.

“Rohit, you are insane??? I came to your house and clearly gave you the reason. I wanted to end this amicably. We could have remained as friends forever. But from onwards I am not going to see your face after what you have done today.” She said drifting her eyes.

“Ohhh really… I am happy to know that, but what you said to me I want to you say the same thing in front of everyone. Your Mom and Mahesh Uncle is there. I don’t think anyone would have problem.”

In the meantime the doorbell rang and I could hear Avani’s voice. She came in while I was confronting Sakshi.

“Hey Jiju….. Now tell why you called me.” She pretended as if she didn’t know anything,

“Avani…stop calling me Jiju…. I am not your Jiju anymore. Call me Rohit Da.” I said and ask her to call everyone those were waiting outside in the hall.

Everyone came in and surrounded me. Except Raju and Mahesh Uncle who were still watching television.

I was there sitting on the chair while Sakshi was sitting on her bed and Avani was sitting by her side. There was a doorbell again. Avani went to open the door. I could hear Vimal’s voice. I looked at Sakshi and understood she had called him sensing what would be today’s situation. But he didn’t come in and waited there in the hall with Raju and Mahesh Uncle. Avani must have made him aware of the situation inside. Sakshi was my fiancé everyone present there knew very well, so no one dare raised any question why I was doing this.

I looked at Sakshi while getting up from the chair and said. “ Now tell me Sakshi…..what is the reason for calling off the marriage suddenly.” She kept quiet and was looking downwards on the floor.

“Speak up Sakshi everyone here wants to know. Tell them the truth.” I repeated.

This time she raised her eyes and said, “Rohit you are not going to achieve anything this way. You have let me down with your this behavior. I always have respected you and admire you as nice human being. But I will never forget what you have done today.”

“Ohhhh really I am glad to know that and I seriously don’t want you to forget this ever.”

Aunty intervene this time, “Rohit what do you want?? Why you are doing this with us. You have bought such shame in our family with this act. I consider you as my son. But you have let me down.”

I am sorry Aunty…you have every right to say anything to me. But whatever your daughter did with me is also unpardonable. If my act has brought shame to your family and then it’s only because of your daughter. Her act has not only brought shame towards my family but I am feeling so guilty that, why the hell I involved my Mom in this? I don’t know how I would face her next time when she comes to know everything about our break-up.

“Comon Rohit why are you bragging the issue. I came to know from her yesterday you both have broken mutually. Then why are you creating such scene today. Let her live happily in her own life. If she doesn’t want to continue with this relation why you are charging her???”

“Aunty you have only heard that what Sakshi wanted to tell you. But today she will confess in front of everyone the real motive of doing so. That no one except me and her knows.”

“I am not getting you Rohit??? State clearly what you want to say.” Sakshi said raising her voice.

“Put your voice down… I am not your fiancé anymore that I will tolerate your this kind of attitude.” I screamed.

“Fine …it’s over then why are you creating a scene here unnecessarily. You have no right to humiliate my family.”

“Ohhhhh yeah!!! And who gave you the right to ruin my life and insult my Mom’s feelings. Please remove the gold chain from your neck that you are still wearing, you are not worthy enough for such respect that my Mom showered on you.” I said forwarding my hand.

She quietly took out the chain from her neck and handed that to me. Everyone in my back was murmuring but I was least concerned.

“And please I want back my engagement ring as well.” I looked at her again and said.

“I don’t have that; I lost it somewhere last week.” She said casually.

“What do you mean by you lost it somewhere? Say you discarded it like you threw me out of your life. Else you did sell it to buy gift for your new boyfriend.” I taunted on her.

“I will pay for it. Don’t worry.”

“No need, its value is beyond your reach. It was a token of our love, it was priceless.” I said in crisp.

“Happy!!!! Now just leave. I am getting late for office.” She said and was about to get up.
