September 23 1445

I watched them cut the throats of my parents. I watched as they burned their corpses. I would not let them get away with this. Not this time. No. I couldn't let them get away this time. I watched in the shadows for too long. I had no choice. I had to save Rome.

I swing my mace at the practice dummy in front of me. The club-like weapon was still too heavy for me to lift and swing. I felt my arms give out. I take a long deep breath in.

“Don't give up! You just started!” I hear Violets voice cheering me on.

“Can't…” I mumble.

“Stop being a moron! Get to work!” Her words of encouragement were… different…

“That makes me want to try harder.” I say sarcastically.

“Just keep swinging”

I continue to swing at the dummy. The fabric snaps as I hit releasing the hay from inside. As I swing one last time I hear a slow clap from behind. I turn to see Benrook, the one who killed.

“You.” I say. I hated this man. Hated this man more than anything in the world. He was the killer of my parents.

“Nice swinging. Still not enough to kill my men. Nothing you do will be enough because well, you are but only a mere child.” He speaks in his grim voice

“Im 19” I answer. Short and quick answers are all I gave him. When it came to the Benrook I had to keep quiet.

“I can see the hatred in your eyes. It is funny how you are my only threat. No one dares to attempt to hurt me or my men. Do you know why?” He steps towards me til hes about a foot from my face. Not a safe distance.

He begins to whisper in my ear;”Because they are weak. So very weak. But no, you, my men find you as a threat. But now that we finally meet, I don't know where they see it in you.” I prepare to swing my mace. “Don't even think about it. I have men all over the place. One small attack and they won't hesitate to kill you.”

“At least if you were dead you wouldn’t have anymore control.”

“But you wouldn’t kill me, no you would kill me, not yet.” He was right. I wouldn't kill him when this place is guarded. I had to wait for the right moment.

The Attack (November 15 1445)

After confronting Benrook a few months ago, I have been training non stop. About a week ago I discovered that I could hold my mace without trouble. I began to train with knives and swords. One hit with the mace to stun, then stab in the heart with a knife. It was a powerful attack that I learned from Jamerson, the town blacksmith. The old man fought in two wars.

Part One

The Attack

(November 15 1445)

“You are not attacking yet!” Violet argues.

“I have to, they are killing another citizen. I can't let them do that. Believe me I’m going to be fine. Trust me.” I assured her.

“At least let me help!”

“No you have a child to take care of.”

The look on her face showed shear disappointment. But i couldn't let her leave when she had a daughter to take of. When her sister was killed, she was stuck with her child. Violet accepted her as her new daughter and raised her as her own. Violet only being 17 was extremely responsible for her age. Me being only two years older I helped her a lot. I practically lived with her.

“Wish me luck” I say as I begin to slip on my armor. It might have been weak and cheap but it was all I need.

“Good luck” She gives me a long hug and I leave the house.

“Welcome all” I hear the voice of Benrook Captain, Skail, yell from below. I perch on the highest ledge possible waiting for the right moment to strike. “Today we witness the death of Rodrick Alicalliny; a war fighter turned traitor against our cause. No more Rodrick shall you live. No more.” He readied his sword about to stab into his heart.

“I need to get down there.” I say to myself. The only choice I had from this height is to… to jump. How could I do this? I could land on top of him and kill him but… would that cushion my fall? It was a chance I had to save this man. I brace myself… and jump.

The wind whistles in my ears as I fall. I spread my arms out to catch the wind and ready my knife. I aimed my jump just right to stab him. The knife jabs into his back. I use his body to cushion my fall.

“Rest in peace, bastardo” I say to his dying body. I hear the panicked voices of the guards and citizens around me. Constant screams of ‘Please don't kill me!’ or ‘HE KILLED HIM!’

The next troublesome thing was the guards. I had 2 ways of getting out of this. A. Kill the guards and remove some other nuisances B. Spare their life and flee.

“Die you bastard!” I hear the screams of the guards say as they attack me.  I had to refocus. No more planning. I had one choice, I couldn't spare them. I unsheathe my mace ready to fight. I never counted the guards that were attacking me. 6. 6 Fully armoured guards with sharp spears aimed at me.

“Vieni a prendermi!” I taunt them.

“Coraggio giovane” The familiar voice fills my ears sending a chill down my spine. I turn to see Benrook.

“Benrook.”

“Pleasure to see you again.” Benrook smirks. “You have trained well, you are a skilled fighter.” He takes out his sword and aims it at me. “Good enough to join my army, but you are a fool. You are to fueled on anger and hatred. The very emotions that bring me pleasure. It would be a pleasure to kill you. Yes, I'll have that at some point. Yes, but for now, addio. Guards give him our… guest treatment.”

“Sir!” The grab me by the hand and drag me to a large body of water next to the town center. “Hope you know how to swim.” They toss me in.

The water, was cold. My body heat couldn't protect me from this water. I swim up to the top and take a deep breath.  “Dannazione” I swim around trying to find a place to exit. I feel my body lock up more and more as I swim. FInally, an exit. I finally climb out of the hole.

“Cristofano!” I hear Violets voice in the distance. I’m sure she waited for me. She runs towards me. The look on her face showed pure disgust. “You smell like you swam in a sewer.”

The Distraction

“So whats the plan?” I ask.

“Plan? PLAN? We don't need a damn plan! We barge in, you take care of the guards and I confront Benrooks wife.” Johnny, a newer ally of mine states. He had a powerful, yet old sounding voice.

“What are you going to…”

“What else am I going to do, lad?  I am gonna try ta get some information out of the woman.”

“Ottimamente”

“Uh… how are you going to get information? Beat it out of her?” Violet speaks up.

“Eh? What kind of monster do ya think I am?” Johnnys slang and improper speech really stood out.

“Just wondering” I could tell Violet didn't like him.

Johnny didn't know italian. He wasn't the smartest man. No not at all.

“Buona fortuna” Violet wishes me.

“Grazie”

“Bah! I can’t understand that italian garbage!” Johnny blurts.

“She wished me good luck and I thanked her.”

“Ah. No luck for me eh?” He asked.

“Buona fortuna” Violet rolls her eyes.

“Alright enough,andiamo” I interrupt.

“Eh?”

“Sorry, I keep forgetting.”

“Alright, what’s my route?” I turn to Johnny.

“How ‘bout ya go up ta that tower up there? Scale the sides of it and reach the top and do your best to distract the guards.” Johnny responds with broken english. I nod in agreement and run towards the tower. “Oh and use this to make some noise.” He throws me a gun.

I was not the best at climbing, but I had to do my best to get up. I found my arms getting tired too fast. Then I broke the on rule of climbing, Looking down. I could deal with the heights of the building I killed the Benrook captain on but this, something scared me on. I feel my weak hands begin to break hold of the tower window. Before I fall to my death, I catch something, I watch as Johnny pushes his heavy body through the guards, knocking them over. After he goes out of sight thoughts flood my mind. I’m going to die, dead, death, I'm going to die, I'm going to be forgotten, I'm going to die… No, I couldn't die. Not today at least. I fall near another rung on the tower and grab on. The impact from the fall rushing into my arms and hands. Ignore the pain, Ignore the pain. After serious pain, I finally reach the top.

“I did it.” I pull the gun of my back and prepare the action. I clean out the barrel and cock it. BOOOOM. I fire the first shot. I repeat the firing process and fire again. Every shot I hear guards scream something I couldn't comprehend. One of the guards inches towards the tower. I shoot him to attract some attention.

“There he his! Kill him!” I hear the guards shout. I ready myself to jump to the nearest tower, It looked at least 4 meters away. Could I make that jump? I don't care. I run to the side and jump.

I continue to distract the guards making them fall into the water, fall of buildings. I hoped Johnny was okay. I guess I’m about to see. I open the large doors of the main building. What I saw surprised me. Johnny, the man I thought of as undefeatable, stood with guards that held him by the elbows. His armor was taken off of him revealing fierce cuts, they were recent. The guards must have bested him.

Benrook’s wife finally reveals herself. She begins to clap
