as he said his next word,
“pixie. Did you really think our master didn’t know that you were going to tell the king about his plan?”
Jolent didn’t answer back, and the girls didn’t even dare breathe too hard lest that would give away their location deep in the cave.
The dragon gave a sigh, “I’d hope it wouldn’t come to this. I actually started to like you. But I guess you could never trust anyone smaller than yourself. I don’t even trust my master.”
A small ball of fire was puffed out of his mouth and it floated toward them. Simolia concentrated giving it a little bit of water each time it came closer, and it faded before it even reached them.
“You had to pick such a small cave to spend the night in. Oh, well it will be a tight fit!” he said then they heard a loud roar from the other side of the cave. There was another dragon and they were stuck in between.
“This is not good.” Jolent whispered, “We have trespassed on a dragon’s home and led another dragon from a different pack to it. This is not going to be a good place to be.”
“What can we do?” Simolia asked.
“Megdelia do you have any of that sun seeds left over from lunch?” Aralina whispered. She heard Megdelia fish around in her pockets then held out a hand in the direction of her friends voice.
“Yes, here.” she searched around for her friend’s hand and dropped them in. Aralina bent down and felt around on the floor. There was a crevice in the floor which most likely lead to the base of the mountain. She dropped the seeds in it and then she in turn concentrated her energy on the flowers. The group heard a rumble as the dragon came closer. Then a huge stem emerged out from the enlarging crevice. And then a leaf.
“Quick jump on,” Aralina called to Jolent. Who was hefted on to it and sent up toward the cave ceiling. The sprout had found a hole and was breaking up toward the surface this was going to be the largest sunflower ever. Which was what she was hoping for. Quickly the others flew after it up the hole that it had made. Just as the angered dragon puffed by to meet its unscheduled guest.
The girls soon made it to the opening at the other side and saw Jolent in the early morning light clinging to the leaf for dear life. Megdelia came and plucked him off the leaf and down to the mountain just a couple feet below.
“That was terrifying absolutely terrifying.” he mumbled.
“It’s all right you're safe now. From the heights that is.” Megdelia looked to watch the two mad dragon's fight.
“Don’t worry as long as they are fighting they won’t pay attention to us and we can escape.” Jolent comforted.
The four fairies looked at him, “To rescue the others I mean.”
“Out of the frying pan and into the fire.” Simolia mused.
“Well we best get going that way!” Jolent pointed then started off.
The others followed on foot to keep an eye on him. All wondering if they could trust him. But they had no choice now did they? They had to follow him, and trust him with their lives. He knew everything about Darius and that is why they needed him.
Jolent stopped as they came to two peaks with a valley in between them.
“Here it is!” he said as he motioned them all to lay on their bellies and crawl closer to the edge of the ridge that they had been walking on for some time.
“I don’t see anything!” Simolia complained.
“That’s because Darius has it under a mirror spell. It mirrors what it used to be like, before he built his ‘palace’, but it is there none the less.”
“How do we get in?”
“At high noon when the guards on this side will be temporarily blinded until the sun guard kicks in five minutes later. That gives one of us time to get past the guards and shut off the alarm wall. Over there.” He pointed toward a spot near the trees.”
“I guess that’s me then.” Megdelia offered.
Jolent nodded, “Usually when it is just me. I just walk through and find my usual hiding spot until the guards shut the siren off. But since there are more of us that would not be a good idea.”
The others nodded.
“OK then Jolent. How do I shut off the wall?”
“There is a switch on the right side of the tower closest to the wall. If you fly in fast enough you can get through without the wall picking up your motion.”
She took a deep breath it all came down to her.
Aralina laid a hand on her shoulder and smiled.
“Just tell me when Jolent and I will do it!” She said using every ounce of courage she had.
Jolent nodded, and a smile lit his face, “You can trust me I’m sorry for what I did. But I just had to.”
“I think we understand!”
The group waited and watched until it came the sun rose high in the sky. Megdelia wiggled back to warm up. She stretched her wings and paced.
“So how fast exactly do I have to go.”
Jolent looked up at her, “You know your fastest.”
Megdelia nodded.
“Well, you need to go three times as fast.”
The girls gasped, and their eyes bulged.
“Are you serious! She can’t go that fast. She could die!” Kaliea exclaimed.
“Shhhh. Keep your voices down. I know she can do it. There’s a lot this girl doesn’t know about her past.”
“Such as.” Megdelia asked, that was the third time he said something like that and she wanted to know more.
“That you are part pixie as well.”
“I am a P-p-p-p-ixie.” She choked.
“Only part. That’s why you are so fast. Faster then any normal flight fairy. And that is also why Draco said that there was a pixie in the cave too.”
Megdelia was in shock, she was part pixie!
She then shook her head, they were running out of time she could dwell on this later.
“OK, I am ready can I go now?”
Jolent looked at the sun squinting. Then he nodded.
“You still have to be careful that you don’t stop to fast and sprain your wing.”
Megdelia nodded then took off giving herself a little pep talk, “All right, you can do this. Ready, let’s go!”
She took off in the direction needed, and the girls watched her get faster and faster until she was just a blur.
“She can’t make it like that.” Kaliea whispered.
“Shush.” Jolent said as he watched intently.
Then she breached the wall without a sound.
“She’s in!” he breathed silently, “Come on, let’s get to the wall.
They made it their and Megdelia was waiting for them, all excited.
“I did it!” She whispered as she joined up with them and they ran toward a side door.
“Come on. They are all most likely in the dungeon this way!”

Collin was sitting in the dungeon, when the door opened, and Darius’s son came down.
“Where is Kat? You promised us a meeting.” demanded Collin.
“She doesn’t want to see you. She doesn’t even know you. She has never known you. I don’t even know you. You are confusing her.” said Drake.
“Let me see her.” said Collin. “Please.”
Drake sighed, and went upstairs. Soon afterward, Kat came down. She was different. She was wearing a red tunic this time, with black boots, and a black cloth belt. Her now short hair that came to her shoulders instead of her waist, was tied back with a red strip of fabric. Her eyes were cold. She walked up to the bars, and said, “What do you want?”
“Kat. What happened? I could hear you screaming, and Darius said that you would see me, but he didn’t let you!”
“You’re crazy. I didn’t want to see you. I don’t even know who you are.” said Kat, coldly.
“Kat?”
“My name is Katalia. You will call me that. You could also call me your highness. Only my friends call me Kat.” she said.
“Katalia, I know you might have lost hope, but we have each other! I’m still here. We can talk to each other. Don’t lose hope Katalia. We can escape.”
“Escape? Are you insane?” Katalia’s voice was full of harsh laughter. “I’m afraid you are mistaken. I don’t want to escape. This is my home. I love it. I love my uncle, and I love Drake. No matter what you can say can change that. I have had enough of this conversation. Don’t expect me to come back soon.”
Katalia and Drake walked back up the stairs.
Collin sat in silence, and despair. He was in a cold, dark dungeon, chained to the wall by magic, and the princess he wanted to marry, had left him, and joined her uncle. There were no words from Nathentex.

much, much, much later...
“Collin?” called Megdelia softly.
“Katalia?” called Simolia in the same tone.
“Girls?” came a surprised, and quiet voice.
“Collin! Where are you?” asked Kaliea.
“Um, in the dungeon.” said the voice.
“Well, we know that, but where in the dungeon?” asked Aralina.
“You see the stairs leading up?” said Collin.
“Yes.” whispered Aralina.
“I’m about two cells from your left of the dungeon if you are standing at the back wall.” he said.
The girls hurried forward, and saw him, sitting against the wall. He wasn’t moving, so the girls guessed that he was somehow chained to the wall, but they couldn’t see any chains, so they asked him about it.
“It’s magic. Darius put it on me. There is someone else down here, though.” he answered.
“Kat?” they asked, excitedly.
“No.” he said, and he sounded brokenhearted.
“What happened? Is she all right?” the girls asked, simultaneously.
“No.” answered Collin.
“What happened?” the girls demanded.
“She- she isn’t- she isn’t like- like Kat.” he said.
“What do you mean?” asked Simolia.
“She has changed. She seems like her uncle.”
“But how?” asked Kaliea.
“I don’t know. The last time I saw her, she told me to call her Katalia, or your highness. Not Kat. And that I shouldn’t expect to see her anytime soon.”
“That can’t be Katalia.” said Aralina.
“It is.” Collin said miserably.
“No it isn’t your majesty. Oh the body is Katalia, but she is under the spell of her Uncle. And I imagine Drake is as well.” said Jolent.
“Jolent!” the elf cried softly.
“I’m here my cousin. I will free you!” Jolent said holding onto the bars as if for dear life.
“We need to get them out of there!”Aralina said.
“Shh! Not too loud! They could be near!” exclaimed Collin softly.
There was a loud creaking noise, and the girls realized that the door to the dungeon was being opened. They hid behind the stairs, since there was a small alcove behind them.
Someone walked down the stairs, and there were sounds of another person coming about halfway down them. The girls cautiously peeked around the corner, and saw Kat.
Kat was standing in front of Collin’s cell, with her arms crossed, and a frown on her face.
