She was certainly different. Her hair that used to come down to her waist was now down to her shoulders, and in a choppy style. Her bangs were short, and they were also choppy, hanging a little above her eyebrows. She was wearing a red tunic, with a black belt, boots, leggings, and necklace. The tunic had a round black rimmed collar, and the ends of the long sleeves also had it, as well as the bottom of the skirt of the tunic.
“Hello your highness.”said Collin.
Kat sniffed. “Oh, please. I’m not here to make conversation with you. Tell me, where is the elf in here.”
“There is no need to ask another of my location miss. I am in the cell next to his lordship.” said Nathentex.
“Bah, his lordship?” said a voice from the stairs. “He won’t be feeling so lordly when Kat tells him our wonderful news.”
“What news?” asked Collin.
“Drake, I don’t think that we need to tell them. Why should they care?” asked Kat.
“I don’t know. I guess I just want to gloat.” said Drake, and Kat laughed with him.
They sobered, and Nathentex was let out of his cell. Drake walked down the stairs, and grabbed him, then pulled him up the stairs, calling to Kat over his shoulder, “Hey, I think that my dad wants us. We should see him.”
“Fine.” said Kat indifferently, and she followed him up the stairs, without another glance at Collin.
The door closed, and locked. The girls came out of their hiding place, and walked up to Collin’s cell.
“I think that we see what you mean.” said Aralina. “She certainly has changed.”
“How did she change?” asked Simolia.
“I don’t really know.” said Collin. “She was talking to me the other day, and she was fine. Then her uncle told her to go for a walk, and that he would allow us to talk later. She didn’t come back for a while, so when the guy named Drake came down, I told him about it, and he went upstairs, got her, and came back down. She was different then. Before she came back down, though, I could hear her screaming.”
“Maybe that had something to do with it.” said Megdelia.
“I don’t know, but maybe.” answered Collin. “Go rescue her.”
“But we need to get you out.” said Simolia. “Allow me to help.”
She ran her hands over the bars, until they were covered with frost. Then, Kaliea, knowing what her friend was doing, ran over to the wall, and got a torch. She came back, and held the torch near the bars that were covered with frost. The frost melted, and Simolia and Kaliea started all over again.
Finally, the bars were soft, and Jolent tore them away. He said it was as easy as cutting butter.
The girls ran into the cell, and tried to pull Collin from the wall, but it didn’t work. Simolia tried to freeze the wall, but it didn’t work. Megdelia tried to blow it away, but failed. Aralina tried to make a plant grow in between Collin, and the wall, but that didn’t work either. They were out of ideas.
“If only Methuen were here.” said Kaliea. “He would be able to help us.”
“Hm, I thought you were missing someone.” said Collin,“Where is that crazy fellow?”
“The elf, Hosily, is taking care of him for us.” said Aralina.
“Oh.” said Collin.
“I think I might have the solution to your problem, prince.” said Jolent.
“What?” asked everybody.
“Darius might have to do it.” said Jolent.
“Oh.” said the group.
“Well, then. We will have to overcome Darius.” said Simolia.
“We can do it. After we do, we will make him set you free.” said Megdelia to Collin.
“Well, thanks.” said Collin. “But don’t kill yourselves.”
The girls laughed quietly.
“No, seriously. Don’t let him kill you. You four are worth more.” he said.
“Thanks Collin. We will get Katalia too.” said Aralina.
“Good luck.” Collin called quietly after them, as they flew up the stairs, as to not make any noise.
The door creaked slightly as they opened it, and the girls and Jolent froze, expecting someone to come running. But no one did. The girls walked into the hallway, and Simolia gasped.
“What is it?” Megdelia whispered.
“This castle is a replica of the one in Fairytropolis!” she exclaimed. “I know the way around. Follow me!”
She led the way to the throne room. As they were passing a sitting room, they heard voices inside.
“So, my next question, while we wait for Dad.” that was Drake. “What are your four least favorite things?”
“Oh, that’s easy. I don’t like ice, colorful clothes, fast things, or flowers, or plants of any kind.” said Kat’s voice.
“Those are weird things to not like.” said Drake. “Why do you not like them?”
“Uncle told me a couple of things about them, and they seem horrible.” answered Katalia.
The girls knew why Darius had told Kat bad things about those things. Each of those things were each of the girl’s power. They all jumped when they heard a voice nearer to them.
Fortunately, they had hidden themselves in a small room, next to the one that Kat and Drake were in, and had opened the door a crack, so that they could see the doors.
“Ah, my two favorite kids in the world.” said Darius, stepping into the room.
“Dad, we are adolescents.” said Drake.
“As you wish. So, did you get what I requested?” asked Darius.
“The elf is right over there.” said Kat, pointing somewhere off to her left.
“Ah, I see. Hello Nathentex.” said Darius.
Nathentex didn’t answer.
“I’ll need to go get the prince, too.” said Darius.
“I’m glad that you want to do the dirty work.” said Kat.
“Yeah, and hey, Dad? Where did that guy come from?” asked Drake.
“I told you that already.” said Darius. “He came here, saying that he was going to take Katalia home with him, and that he was going to marry her.”
Kat shrugged. “I don’t even know him.” she said. “If I don’t know someone, I wouldn’t marry them. Besides, I am going to marry Drake in a few hours. I couldn’t ask for a better husband.”
“Good, and I will be happy to have you as a daughter- in- law.” said Darius fondly.
He left the room, and Kat said something about getting the job done, and getting a good seat. The girls saw her get up, and walk away.
When she was gone, Drake sat for a moment on the floor, where he had been seated. He stared at the ground for about five minutes, then he got up, and left.
The girls came out of their hiding place, and looked around. Apparently, either Kat or Drake had taken Nathentex with them, for he was not in the room. As they were walking about, they heard a shout, a yell, and a roar.
“That has to be Collin.” said Kaliea.
“Come on! We have to find them!” said Aralina, and she ran out of the room. The girls followed her, and followed the sound of yelling and roaring.
They found where the yelling and roaring was coming from, when they ran into a huge room that had a monster the size of Megdelia’s house in it. It was huge, and black. It had wings shaped like a bat’s and it also had huge red eyes. Its scaly, dragon-like body was covered with horns, and it had a tail that had a spiky ball on the end. It was standing on four legs that each had four long, clawed fingers on them.
The girls were standing in an arena, right behind Darius, Drake, and Katalia, who was holding a long rope that was attached to something underneath the balcony that they were standing on.
Darius said, “Now.” and Katalia dropped the rope.
There was a yell, and a crash from underneath them. Apparently, Kat had been holding a rope that was attached to a cage, that had Nathentex in it. The monster pounced at the broken cage, and picked up Nathentex.
It was just about to pop the elf into its mouth, when a rock whistled out of nowhere, and hit the monster square in the eye. Collin was standing on the monster’s side, chucking rocks at it, and trying to get it to come away from Nathentex. The monster dropped Nathentex, who fell to the ground, inert.
The girls stepped back, and circled around the hallways, until they found a balcony directly above where Darius and Kat and Drake were. They got onto it, and saw the monster chasing after Collin.
“We need to help him.” said Simolia.
“Right.” said Jolent. “Perhaps you could freeze the monster?”
“Me?” asked Simolia. “I don’t think that I could do that much.”
“You have to try.” said Kaliea.
“You can do it. We will help, if we can.” said Aralina.
“Who will distract Darius, and Drake, and Kat?” asked Megdelia.
“Leave that to me.” said Jolent.
“You sure?” asked Aralina.
“Yeah, I’m sure.” said Jolent, and he jumped down from the balcony, and ran off.
“So... on three?” Simolia asked.
“No. Now. We will warn you if someone is coming.” said Kaliea.
The girls pushed Simolia off the edge of the balcony, and Megdelia jumped down after her. Kaliea and Aralina took places near where Drake, Kat, and Darius were. Jolent cried out, and took off running.
Jolent was running down the hallway, away from Katalia.
He had not been able to distract them all, and Darius had sent Katalia after him. She was running after him, shooting bits of magic at him. Apparently, Darius had given her something that enabled her to use magic, and she had obviously been taught how to use it. One spark of magic caught him in the back, and electrical pulses ran up and down his spine. The last thing he saw, was Katalia bending down towards him, with an angry expression.

Jolent had not been able to distract them all, Kaliea noticed, as Drake started to run down the stairs toward her. She tried to stop him by throwing a rock in his direction, but he just held up his arm, sideways, and the rock bounced back toward her. She dodged it, and flew into the arena to give a warning.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Aralina sighed. Of course. She had to stop Darius. He had to come this way, instead of the other way?
She made a wall of plants, and ran down the hallway. Halfway down, she made another wall. She wouldn’t be able to stop him completely, but as long as she could slow him down, she could give the others enough time to get ready to face him.

Simolia was about ready to drop. Literally. She had been freezing the monster’s head, legs, tail, whatever. You name it, she froze it. And he kept on breaking through! It got better when Megdelia joined her, and got an unconscious Nathentex to safety. Collin
